Investing Gil for Transfering Worlds

We all know that when we want to transfer to a different world, there is a limit on the account of Gil that can be taken with the character, 1mil on hand and 100k for each retainer. If we've been on a world for some time, likely we'll amass much more than that so some of us would be in a little bit of a dilemma.

So I'm looking for ideas from people on what items I can buy that i can then sell in the next world without too much of a loss. Of course market prices vary so some things are worth more on some worlds than others so unlikely to ever get the full amount back, but any advice on how/where to spend about 5-6mil Gil would be appreciated.

Materias V for crafter and gatherers
Rare minions
Night Pegasus from PotD. On my server it costs 20-50 mils.
Allagan (Platinum) Pieces and Clear Demimaterias You can sell them to any vendor after transfering. Of course, you will loose some money if you want buy all from MB, but still...

Glass fibers and crafting materia V, though with Zhloe they're probably taking a bit of a hit. They won't give you as big of a return as some other items, but they'll sell quickly and at a profit so you can quickly reliquidate and gain some.

If you can get them at face value allagan silver/gold/platinum pieces and clear demimateria III, you woul just vendor them on your new server.
Also as I understand it a server transfer can work on each char in your account for 1 fee, so if your account lets you create a few new characters, transfer 1m each to them and transfer server in group.
Materia can be good but dangerous with changes in getting them, minions are just plain dangerous to use for transferring gil because value can change quickly.
One other item that has a somewhat stable price is Thavnarian onions.
Just create a character on your new server and check out prices.

Balmung is cheaper than probably any other server, so while normally a good strategy, Allagan pieces and anything else that's gil neutral are a bad idea for the OP, as he'd just be giving up a chance to make money.

One of the best things might be elemental crystals / clusters, they will allways sell and unless SE gives us way easier ways of getting them which i dont expect before stormblood they will keep their average value

Do not vendor Gold/Patinum pieces and Clear demimaterias, just list them on MB for 2x price and other people who are transferring will buy them anyway, maybe even for 3x value. If you have only 5m then Thavnarian onions and Battlecraft/Fieldcraft IIIs are a safe bet, as well as 'cute' minions like bullpups. V materia prices are currently unstable with people getting a lot of them from Diadem so use it with caution. Pure White/Black dyes are always a hit on all servers, but obviously check your target server prices before buying them.
5-6m is a pocket change, last week I was forced to spend 350 millions in a single day when suddenly decided to transfer so I was emptying marketboard and buying whatever I can, even stacks of Backed Pipira (which are selling well) and Paramour Bardings (which will probably never sell). Got 200 back already so my choices weren't that bad.
