No more "Set clothing items of adjective"

You've seen em. they practically litter the market board lists by now.

    your Rainbow shirt of fending.
    your Dhalmelskin harness of striking.
    your Ironworks gloves of healing.
the (Set) (Clothing item) of (adjective)

It used to be here and there, denoting items that looked the same but now, in HW, it's just gone too far.

Please, find something more creative to name your items. Surely there enough information and systems in place to denote the job requirements of the item. This isn't beyond you guys, you've shown you can do it, but this naming convention has been run into the ground already.

Well, it's a simple convention that works.

We also have things such as "Shire Philosopher" items - And of course, everyone instantly makes the connection between a "Philosopher" and a jobs that set the world on fire with destructive spells.
Or the conqueror's armguards - which obviously are for monks, because everyone thinks of conquerors when one thinks of monks.

    Or "Woad Sky-Chaser/Wicce/Warrior/XXX".

Personally? I'm for naming items:"Tank Chestpiece #561" or something alike. That naming convention isn't common in RPGs.

Yeah, it is very creative for sure. Not.

The item names weren't that creative in ARR either. Hempen Kurta, Cotton Robe, Steel Flanchard...honestly, this naming convention is a lot better. It makes it a lot easier and faster (especially as a crafter) to pick out what items I need and when. I don't think the items need to have flouncy special names unless it's a flouncy special item, like the relics, or artifact gear.

at the very least they described the item properly, why the "of fending" bit? and why is it constantly used for almost every piece of fighting armor craftable? Any seller would at least attempt to rename such a long winded thing.

And why can't we make special items ourselves?

Those suffixes have meaning. "Of Striking" - Monk(and soon to be Samurai) gear. For jewelry, add Dragoon to that too. "Of casting" - DPS casters. And so on.

While each piece of gear having a unique name would be nice, and could certainly be done, I personally prefer seeing just from the name what classes an item is for, rather than having to look at the item's stats to know who the item is for.

It also helps when searching with wildcards.

Fending = to defend. It describes tank gear quite well.

Following a consistent pattern that distinguishes what it's for makes it easier to find and identify what items you want. It seems a nice improvement over the random naming you want to go back to.

I miss FFXI, where exactly 0% of the 30,000+ items have "of <adjective>" in their name http://ffxiclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Body
