Item dupe exploit?

I don't know if anyone else on Balmung has noticed, but it looks like there's an exploit for Frosted Glass Lenses. It's been a few weeks now, and this guy has thousands of them on the MB, all in stacks of 99.

That's just the top of the board as of right now. I'm fairly certain it's the same person, as all the retainer names follow the same format. It just goes on, line after line of these retainers with stacks of 99.

Here's the thing, the Frosted Glass Lenses are a rare-ish drop from Peisteskin and Unhidden Leather Maps. They can also be acquired from desynthing the Cragsoul Lamp. These seem to be the only way to get the lenses.

Up until a few weeks ago, these lenses were about 100k+ a piece, and there weren't many on the board. Suddenly one day it was flooded with this guy posting all of these. It just doesn't seem possible that any person could legitimately get this many lenses. I feel like it should be reported as a bug but idk.

Now you make me want to check my MB on these. I feel like there may be other desynths you could get them from, because I've never really seen them sell for much (been a long time since I checked), but I could be totally wrong.

Edit: Yep, 50k a pop on my server, but the ability to generate them from desynth is actually really simple.

There are alternatives that aren't listed elsewhere that don't require cheating, although that price still seems like a loss. edit: Looking over items, possibly desynthing from the carbuncle lamps after buying them with FC credits? Someone with gsm and credits would have to try it.

There's no item dupe. Just new desynth options from vendor gear. (Yes, I know exactly where these are coming from, and it's totally legit)

...why not just look on xivdb and see what synths use the item and check if any of those are now in shops before making such a ridiculous accusation?

Why do you think I made this thread questioning it? I looked on gamerescape (didn't think to check XIV DB) saw where it came from there and thought it was pretty suspicious. Jesus. Anyways, thanks for the answers.

Just tried to do some desynthing and it is definitely not an exploit. I got a few of them easily enough.

Wall Lanterns. They were semi recently added to NPC shops along with a lot of other furniture.

I figure it's been long enough for people who figured it out to have had their fun. I know I haven't been any better at educating everyone vs limitedly sharing the info. But...it's been a little while now.
