I enjoyed watching other e-sports like starcraft and street fighter v. Nothing wrong with watching high level players going at each other to see who would win. The feast just has too many issues atm and SE takes way too long to fixed these issues. SE also doesn't take feedbacks from top players into consideration for balance or to stop cheaters, but the feast mode itself is a serviceable fun mode of pvp to play as well as the frontline pvp mode. They are not great just serviceable.

From what I hear, cheating and hacking aren't as big an issue for the JP servers as they are for NA and EU, so maybe Yoshi-P doesn't really know about them (like how he didn't know how bad RMT-spam was until he was spammed while visiting NA/EU servers. We got the Report RTM button after that...).
Having said that, it's not like we're silent about them here on the forums or on Reddit...

The problem is you can't attract sponsors or eSports-level players to a game that is so broken.

Yeah, that's what confuses me about Yoshi's order of priority. It's like the main team is blissfully unaware of the issues non-JP communities face (for all aspects of the game).

People have covered some good points already, so I'll just go ahead and add that I find this game to be too visually "busy" to work well with eSports. Every ability has some ridiculous animation that makes you feel really cool and badass in PVE, but makes for super annoying and obfuscated viewing in a PVP environment. When an AST's basic regen move puts this big huge shield around the character with these symbols all over it, and Dragonfire Dive drops a nuclear-level explosion around a pile of people, and Fire IV is Fire IV...it just makes it hard to tell WTF is going on from a viewer's perspective, IMO.

But seriously that's just the tip of the iceberg on the veritable Titanic of fail that the competitive PVP scene is in FFXIV right now.

Just in case a Rep is looking and wants to report our concerns to the Dev team:
-Hackers, Cheaters, and Win Traders are not being punished. I get that these players are giving you guys money, SE, but not banning these types of players will only ruin your image in the eSports community and alienate players who aren't using cheats or hacks.
-You don't really seem to connected with your NA and EU fans. The above complaint being a key example of this...
-Job Balancing and Adjustments aren't happen frequently enough and the dev team's "Wait and observe for 3 months" attitude is not going to help.
-PvP is too attached to PvE (Gear, Level, Skills, Unlocking, Job Adjustments leaning more towards PvE's needs)
-PvP needs to be accessible as soon as you make a new character, no PvE Quests
-You need to remove PvE gear from PvP completely. I might even suggest removing gear completely from PvP and have it just be cosmetic, like PotD.
-The PvP modes (Feast and Frontlines) are too different from each other and need separate balancing and adjustments
-Skill Bloat and too many useless Skills (even more then PvE). You need to separate PvE and PvP skill-kits from each other and cut down on the number of skills each job has.
-Animations are too big, flashy, and distracting
-The game is to slow-pace and hard to follow to be entertaining to an audience
-Objectives and Progression need to be made clearer for both the players and audience
-DPS and Healers (especially healers) are too durable. All roles need a balance of Healing/Support/Utility, DPS, and Durability. If a job is extremely too proficient in one of these categories, they need to suffer accordingly in the other two.
-Healer's burst heals are too powerful for a PvP environment.
-You NEED a dedicated PvP Dev Team separate from PvE's Dev Team. You will stretch yourselves too much if you have to go back and forth between the two and both will suffer from it.
-Players that aren't communicating via a separate, third-party Voice Chat app need a way to communicate and coordinate. Especially in PuG groups.

Most changes they have made to PvP since 3.3 have been making the game mode more casual than competitive. It'd be like having the Sims as an esport at this point.

The Dev's don't regularly read the PvP forums in NE/EU. Honestly, given some of the thread topics in the JP forums, I don't think they even read those very often.

If SE wanted to make an honest stab at the esport market, then they should really start listening to the players who actually play those game modes. Could I see it happen? Hypothetically yes. However, there would have to be so many massive and sweeping changes that it is unlikely. The last time SE showed that kind of backbone and initiative was when the kiboshed the original FFxiv with a meteor and re-branded the game as A Realm Reborn. Since then they've been fairly lack luster when it comes to innovating or improving their products.

I am going to be patient and see what Stormblood has in store. That being said, it isn't gonna happen unless at least the following are addressed...
    • Improve server latency as it applies to position data and server ticks
    • Job balancing that will allow for base-level PvP to prosper without the use of map/mode gimmicks
    • Regular job balancing after that as necessary (3 months, if we're lucky, is foolish)
    • Huge leaderboard adjustments with GMs willing to police it PROPERLY
    • Sticking to tournament formats for Light Party competition

Plenty more to look at, but most of them fall under the categories of balance, server, and gimmicks.

Waaay too many things wrong with PvP right now to have it be some sort of official sport. They really need to fix all the things that their "atheletes" are actually making complaints about first. That should be priority O.o. Geez, knowing how the Devs handle priorities, I wouldn't be surprised if there's a Lord of Verminion tournament giving a tiger mount soon.
