How to Tank ranked PvP?

Hello, I was considering trying my hand at ranked pvp. I really love the new glamour and always wanted one of those hellhound mounts, but i was (and still am) scared to mess up. I played 8-man feast a lot but, (at least enough to get garo mounts for myself and wife) still dont really know what to do as a tank. I'm a warrior usually, and most of the time I holmgang people into place for my dps and try to stay near my healers, but what am I supposed to do, really?

Healers run off just like dps, Nobody attacks a holmganged ninja, and I do so little dps to most people that unless its a group effort the enemy healer just heals up what I chip down.

Would anyone like to share some advice and experience with me? I would appreciate it.

First, those mounts you will mever get so forget those.

Your main job is to assist your party offense and defense.
Follow your melee, as a warrior you can't CC enemy healer as effective as DRK or PLD, but you put a lot more damage pressure, but now you have stun but it takes 15 seconds to recharge. If you stay on your melee's target and hopefully your ranged too stays on your melee's target your party will deal so much damage that enemy healer will have hard times healing.
As for the defense part you have great tools, one is onslaught, it is a takle stun, you could macro it so it hits the focus target, then you have tomahawk which is ranged and applies heavy, if you macro it on enemy melee or tank, they will be good for 3 seconds every 7 seconds

I also suggest you to unlock DRK, it's easy to win with drk.

Your Butcher's Block applies a damage taken debuff on the person you're attacking for everyone. You should apply that on the focused target to help melt that person down. Put the pressure on with your Fell Cleaves and stuns.

You'll want to use Holmgang in different ways. Keeping a target in place is helpful, but you can also use it to remove someone from the fight. If you are putting pressure on the healer, you can position yourself so that you pull the healer behind a wall and prevent them from healing their party for a few seconds, then follow it up with an Onslaught stun.

You you reach 4 stacks you'll want to prepare to go into Defiance, and use Inner Release for either Fell Cleaves or to stay alive with Inner Beast.

This is something that shouldn't ever happen unless to secure a win: when only 30 seconds or less is left till end match and/or when there are enough medals on the floor to end the match.

Currently tanks should never go over 2 stacks of vuln

I have dark knight at level 60. War was my first 70.

How does one avoid getting vuln stacks? What causes them? I dont remember getting anything like that in 8v8.. wait, you mean the debuff you get for holding medals?? If thats the case then i get what you mean. I had forgotten about that to be honest..

Main issue with new players is the lack of basics, this is the game fault.

In either 8v8 or 4v4 Feast mode there is a medal system.
Each player at the beginning of the match has 100 medals, if they die they drop HALF the current medals they have, if the enemy team doesnt pick medals on the ground within 1 minute (i think), those medals go back to the owner.
A match ends if a team collects half or more of enemy team medals: 600 in 4v4 (400 initial medals per team), 1200 in 8v8 (800 initial medals per team); or when match ends the team with more medal wins; or when there is sudden death, the first team to get a kill and get medals win.

you get a debuff based on how many medals you have currently, this debuff increases the damage taken, more medals you have and more vulnerable you are, debuff stacks from 1 to 10.
ideally tanks would get 2 stacks, healers 1, melee 1, ranged 1 or make melee 2 aswell, but this depends on match

Bit of a self plug here, but I made a super basic beginner's guide to PvP. Hope it can push you on the right track to start, as you get higher into games you'll have to apply more complex strategies but you should hopefully pick up on those as you play. Stay critical of every match.

There's a site called PVP Paissa which is also good at giving you the basics. I'm not sure if it was updated for this new version of PVP or not.
