My issue is less of people choosing to perform as efficiently as possible themselves, but rather trying to enforce it upon others. It creates a level of toxicity.

Totally agree. Why play if not for fun? I've never understood the need for speed and efficiency when playing it's like somehow you're evaluated on the efficiency of your play - which utterly misses the point of playing.I don’t understand why the FF14 community is so focused on performing in the most efficient manner and so heavily on ilv/BiS. Given the low level of difficulty of all non-savage content, neither of these aspects really matter much at all. When did games stop being about just having fun....
I don't really have a purpose behind this thread… just my thoughts on all of the threads about min/maxing, under performing DF parties, and ilv.
According to whom?
Where is this universal concept of "fun" and the "point" of playing listed?
I like tanking large pulls and watching the mobs blow up around me in seconds, I like clearing a dungeon in 10 minutes as do many of the people i play with. I enjoy fast ex primal clears that allow us to get multiple runs done in the amount of time it takes some groups to clear the first time.
Why is your "fun" more valuable than my "fun"?
What point are you making that I'm missing if the people I'm playing with feel exactly the same?
And lets not forget that this game isn't based on the individual, that any time you queue for content you are matched with other players who may or may not share values that are similar to my own. Are you saying that their "fun" is wrong also? Is that really something you can objectively claim?
What about players who RP and never enter a dungeon outside of story purposes?
Am I supposed to judge their "fun" by my value system and tell them they're missing the "point"?

Quoting from another thread:
I do encourage you have fun when you play, be it the way it might be, but please, this is not an offline game and you're not queueing alone. I don't know if this is just me or really a minority here, but our playerbase is too selfcentered with the me me me attitude. That feeling when you give your best but someone is like "meh, why would I, someone else will put the effort for me instead".
This is part of my point, one that I agree with.
The duty finder is a group activity and there's an expected level of etiquette and play when you enter a party filled with other living players. More often than not, all that they're asking is that everyone adequately pulls their own weight.
Something that can be measured objectively.

The content was not designed to be speed run. In fact the developers have changes content to slow things down on several occasions. The implicit message there is that speed is not the intended method of play. You talk of etiquette, well remember that when you are next faced with someone who does not appreciate your efficiency. In fact you are the one wishing to impose your will on the game, those playing as intended are doing no such thing since they are playing as intended. This is part of my point, one that I agree with.

When you dangle something in front of players, you do so with the expectation some will want it. I am normally a casual. I don't PvE much in MMOs...at least until ARR. I have never had the best gear, but here, for the first time, I did. I never worked on a Legendary weapon in GW2. The anima I maxe was the first I've ever done like it. And with it finally done, I was one accessory away from maxing out my gear. I was so excited I started on a second anima, this one for a secondary class. I figured I would have time to BiS two classes before SB.
Then nine days later, SE blew all that out of the water. Now the anima I sunk so much time, gil and effort into was no longer BiS...and the new BiS was gated behind so much RNG I would never have one. My goal of maxing out my gear was rendered impossible less then a week before I was going to reach it. I saw the finish line and was tripped up at it.
That help explain?

Its a never ending cycle. So long as the pug system exist and people use it, everyone's going to be stepping on someone's toe one way or another. Even if the end result is the same, the journey grates everyone's nerves.
Healing DRK is literally... the same since ShB. The reason why people think it's a meme to heal nowadays because DRK receives very little to no buff to their sustainability vs 3 other tanks getting something useful. If you're capable of healing DRK back in ShB (or any tanks), then you'll heal EW DRK just fine.
Nothing wrong with being efficient. Problem is people throwing tantrums when a run takes 5 minutes longer. If being in a dungeon for an extra 5 minutes is that painful, why are you even playing the game?

While I hardly expect the average duty finder group to bring their A-game into EX Roulette, I do hope that some effort is put into gameplay. I've always seen it as proper multiplayer etiquette ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
