There are plenty of folks in the US who would find it hard to come up with $900 to upgrade even once. As I said earlier at some point the revenue generated by those older systems, of any type, is not enough to justify support. While this allows the product to be updated to newer standards I empathizes with those that lose the ability to play the game. It is important to keep in mind it is the revenue from all systems that allows SE to develop the product. The less money coming in the less function in the product and the less fun the game will be to play. If the revenue drops enough no more game in which case we all lose.
