I think last gen went on for way too long, by 2012 or even as early as 2010 consoles were starting to show that they can't keep up with game enhancements
Sonic Generations comes to mind. It's locked at 30fps with some frame drops and looks blurry on consoles but on PC it runs at a smooth 60fps and looks gorgeous.

Just saying the game could be a whole lot more if it went PC only.

You're right but I don't think they could afford to have FFXIV be PC only since the series has mostly had its home on consoles first.
MMO or not you can't have a game be inaccesible to a chunk of the series fanbase.

I hope you didn't buy an Alienware. My built by myself PC has lasted me a good 2-3 years on a budget of $700AUD and I can run nearly everything at a good framerate and resolution, only now is the video card showing its age and I intend to upgrade it and when I do the card is going to last me another 4+ years I bet.

PC gaming is not as expensive as people make it out to be. I'm not even tech savvy and even I know you don't "NEED" absolutely top of the line stuff. You can get by on a budget.
