Yes that is cherry picking because you're ignoring the IPs that don't fit your narrative of fan favorites being dead. I understand how you feel though, I wish Konami would sell Metal Gear, Contra and Silent Hill.

Konami is making more Metal Gear.
I'm not sure if anyone in the industry would really want to touch Silent Hill again after that disaster though. They could outsource it out to some random western devs again like Homecoming or Origins but I could see that getting about the same reception MGS Survive has gotten.
Oh I'm aware of Survive, but it is hardly "Metal Gear" you know? Zombie shoot'em ups don't really scream Metal Gear to me. To me, Kojima was Metal Gear's heart and soul, and with him gone that's a dead franchise in my eyes. I wouldn't mind Kojima Productions purchasing Metal Gear of course, but I see that happening exactly never.Konami is making more Metal Gear.

As for Silent Hill, I believe there is still some spooks left in those old bones. It's one of the masters of horror, come on! Konami decided to turn evil and shit all over their fans, true, which is why I wish they'd sell those 3 franchises.

Gaming wasn't as big in the 80s and 90s as it is now. Today, the industry closely rivals movie and hollywood entertainment. I would say Sony is always going to have a hold on the console market and Microsoft may be here to stay as well. In my opinion I would say it has nothing to do with slimming down. Instead, it's the bold decisions that the companies make. You bring up the example of letting smaller companies like Sega join in and see new directions, but that already happened and failed. Sega trying to step into the console market almost killed them with the failures of Sega Genesis and Dreamcast. If Sony and MS don't slim themselves down, they will feel a similar issue. Personally I think we need another crash. Get Sony and MS out of the picture. Let smaller companies join in and see new directions. Kinda like we saw with Sega and other companies in the late 80s and early 90s.
A lot of people are missing the point. The limitations set on the other systems by ps3 support isnt about graphics. Its about how much data can be processed at any given time. In order for the ps3 to run the game as it does, ffxiv has to be limited to what can be handled by a system with half a gig of ram. Most pcs have at least 8 gigs these days.

Still saving for a PS4 personally. Really hope I can get one by the time SB hits. Then I gotta scrap up the money to preorder the expansion...
aw that is unfortunate..how close are you to getting it?
On another note, the PC elitists comments on the first page is sickening. Happy I have a custom built computer, not so fond of the attitudes from a lot of PC gamers when it comes to consoles.

The whole PC Master Race rhetoric won't ever go away unfortunately. Its like one of my irl friends constantly goes on and on about it and I'll see FB posts from him going "Oh looks at this emulated version of Breath of the Wild 1440p 4K quality textures!" and then goes on at how terrible the console version is.
Graphics really aren't the be all and end all in games, there are so many other important factors :s
I love my PC gaming and console gaming, but the whole elitist attitude is just pointless to me.

I just tune them out at this point. I'm sick of being told that I'm wrong to play the console I saved up for. It's my game style, and people need to deal with it. You can't convert me to PC, so why try.

And either way, if you really wanted to, you could plug in a keyboard and mouse to your PS4 anyway to have the PC control scheme. So its like even for people who'd love a gaming PC but can't afford, they could still have that set up on PS4 if they were unsure about using the controller.
