Like said before, it's most likely a server issue. We may (or may not, if the reason is balancing) see this go away once 2.0 arrives.


I would seriously say that its ballancing, if you can oneshot 20 mobs with one AoE in a PL party you will be seeing lvl 50 in a few hours, only hitting 8 mobs makes it slightly longer.



That "slightly longer" is about 1 seconds longer.
A MRD for example can do 1 AOE then another one immediately after, then another immediately after that. (3k/2k/1k). Thus AOEing 24 targets in few seconds.
Much, much faster than conjurer can do since cons limited to 8 and then casting time.
When I dual boosted (2leech, 2pl) in Copperbell we would get 23 Ants, it was hilarious how fast they dropped when my buddy would AOE and I would just heal on Conjurer.

It seems odd to be balancing due to this, but it doesn't seem to server issue. Back when PT size was 15 you could AOE your team and mobs higher than 8 entities.

There can be alot of problems with allowing AoEs on all mobs, say they add a mob filled dungeon that all mobs need to be killed to pop the boss, in this case people will be asking for MRD CON THM GLA only, and we will have another FotM DD (possibly scratch the GLA cos MRD can tank)
Um is this confirmed? I'm pretty sure I kill more than 8 creatures at a time on my thm.
It should be limited to 1 mob, just for teh lulz.



Case A:
lets say that your aoe deal 300 dmg/mob and you hit 8 targets, that ll make the total dmg = 2,4k total dmg
Case B:
now w/o the limit and you pull a group of 8+ the dmg will be 2,4k to unlimit of dmg depend on how many target in the aoe
in mmorpg, aoe spells are suppose to have equal dmg with single target spell but divide to the amount of target it hit (standard are from 6-8 target)
so in that point, Case A will suit for the above information, and case B will make the aoe spell become overpower.
For aoe spell, the worst I can think of is the CC w/o limit, those are nightmare in pvp.
So my conclusion is for prevent overpower in DMG/effect & balanced in gameplay , nothing about server
