Hi, new player here, Im also new at MMOs.
Im a bit slow at learning but eventually things just work out, however Im bit over 100h playtime now, and still have some issues I couldnt figure out on my own.

1. Got a new hairstyle item at goldsaucer but I cant use it? Is there a specific way to actually unlock the style? Any other tips on aesthetician stuff?

2. Ive started breeding race chocobos even tho I dont quite get how to do it effectively, so any help on that? What I should know and what not to do? Is there a good thread anywhere of this subject?

3. Loot cast thing in dungeons, what, how?? I get the difference between need and greed but thats it..

4. Retainers, when/how can I hire more? Ive got 2 right now, I havent completed main quest line yet. Also you can send them to gather stuff or something?

5. Is there items/equipment I SHOULD NOT sell/discard/trade if I happened to get one?

1. If you did not yet unlock the aesthetician, you need to find the NPC Jandelaine in Limsa Lominsa to unlock this feature.

3. You can roll Need if your current job is able to equip that piece of loot, if not you can roll greed or pass. Need rolls take priority over greed rolls. Some items, like mounts or minions everyone can roll need on them regardless of what your current job is. The most current raids have weekly restrictions on loot, so once you obtain a piece of loot you have to wait until the weekly reset (tuesday) to be able to roll on loot from those instances again.

4. 2 retainers is the maximum you're allowed to have. You can purchase more from the mog station, however, at a cost of $2/month/retainer up to a max of 8.

5. This is hard to answer as most everything in the game has some kind of purpose, you should confirm what the purpose of the item is before you decide if it has any value to you or not. Here's a resource you can use to help answer these questions.

2. The end goal is to get a pedigree 9 chocobo with full 5 star stats and one good inherited ability/trait. In the beginning you can just focus on the star ratings and make sure the offspring gets some 5 star ratings in their heritage that you can then carry on to the next chocobo. You can add 5 star ratings to your chocobos' bloodline by getting lucky with covering permissions and breedings.

Both parents have their 2 sets of stats (red and blue) and in the breeding the game randomly chooses either color of an individual stat to carry over to the offspring. The dam's randomly selected stats become your new chocobo's red stats and the sire's randomly selected stats become your new chocobos blue stats. Race stats are rolled from your chocobo's red and blue stats but race stats don't affect breeding in any way, only the red and blue heritage stats do.

4. You can send your retainers on ventures by paying them a currency called Venture, which you can get by various means. You can unlock this functionality by doing a quest called An Ill-conceived Venture. It's found in all cities but I'm not sure if you need to complete the one found in your starting city. 5. If you have room in your bags I would suggest you keep all gear that is pink, green or blue quality so you can turn it over to your company in the future. Otherwise I'd say you can discard all tradeable materials that don't sell for much on the market, but keep everything that is unsellable until you're sure you don't need it.

1. So to get one of those new hairstyles you need to do 3 things. First, activate the hairstyle book itself(right-click -> use if you play with a mouse and keyboard). Next, unlock the Aesthetician - this is done via the quest Beauty is Only Scalp Deep in Limsa. Finally, use a crystal bell to summon him to change your hairstyle - this is a furniture item you can find in your Inn room as well as many FC houses.

3. Zetsumei covered this. When you press need or greed you automatically roll a number(which you can see on the loot window). Once everyone has picked, the relevant rolls are made public and the loot is automatically distributed. If you change your mind after rolling(decide you dont actually want something) you can downgrade your roll to a pass as long as the item hasnt been awarded yet(the opposite isnt possible - passing and then deciding you want it, so make sure before you pass).

4. Covered, but ill restate. Two is the maximum you get for free, while you can hire extras by increasing your monthly fee. If you do add retainers, they get added to every character on your account. Then once you do the venture quest Reinha mentioned, you assign your retainer an adventuring or gathering class, and they can go out on missions for you to bring back items that you decide on based on their level. They can only be classes you have unlocked, and cant level up higher then you currently are(also with the gatherers, they can only bring you things you have personally gathered yourself at least once). You pay them with Ventures(obtained several ways including quests and gc seals).

5. Generally, anything you get once you can get again. If you have inventory/retainer space then my advice would just be to keep equipment you like the look of. Crafting mats can be replaced, minions can be bought, mounts... are mostly untradable anyway, but a good looking glamour can be real annoying to have to farm. By the time you get to the really "priceless" stuff, you should mostly know what to look for anyway, so at lower levels my advice is focus on style.

Well, it's not actually based on whether you can equip it or not. It's based on whether the gear is designed for your job or not. At endgame, most gear is only equippable by the job(s) it's designed for, so that difference isn't as noticeable. While leveling, though, everyone can equip most mage gear and tanks can equip DoW damage dealer gear. But regardless of that, it's only your own role's gear where you'll have access to using a Need roll. Being able to equip another role's gear doesn't give you more loot options.

You can do it in whichever city you wish, regardless of where you started.
