Do some of you still not remember a week after final relic step (roughly) a 280 weapon was introduced?
The weapon simply was a ploy to get people to run Diadem, and in that case Diadem itself clearly they could not fix.

This is easy to answer, it is about pre-expectations and forumla. Back in 3.4 they released creator savage and updated the endgame ilvl to 275, this was expected. What is also expected is that in June, the level cap will go up and new content will be released, thus invalidating the current ilvl. Think of it this way, doing raid is almost like signing a contract, it states that "by doing this content you should acknowledge that the reward that you will get from it will only be best for this current gear cycle, which is 2 patches long" people acknowledge that fact and sign away on that reality BEFORE they do the content. Diadem breaks formula, it is something not within the contract that changes the reward structure, and the knowledge of its rewards came after lots of people already have the raid weapon and relic.

In a game in which gear becomes obsolete, especially one as predictable as XIV, it is important for the devs to be mindful about shifting reward goalposts. People are "salty" because the expectation when people set out to collect these rewards is that they would at least last until the expansion, Diadem was SE breaking their contract, so to speak (don't take the contract analogy to mean legally binding btw, I don't want people to be like "dont be so melodramatic, SE can do what they like, it's not illegal").

I think one of the sad things about this is how important these expectations are. We need to have these expectations, a rough timeframe in which our rewards will be relevant, because being caught off guard like this, having the endgame goalpost randomly change with seemingly no structure really shows how worthless these "temporary" rewards are in general, and our expectations help the rewards retain their value.

This is a temporary thing, yes, once stormblood is released people will forget about it, but that doesn't make the decision any less reckless and stupid. Despite the essays worth of material that I have poured into the thread, I actually don't care about the weapon, and I care even less about Diadem as a piece of content; what I care about is reward balance, and what I see here is a glaring fault with a reward system that has been progressively getting worse. People can say that this will be forgotten so it doesn't matter, but I have seen consistancy of risk/reward going downhill since 3.1 and this is a step too far for me, this will not go away in Stormblood.

It really is destructive for people like that to behave the way they do because of a couple harmless words. It literally comes off like those "Don't tell me to calm down, YOU CALM DOWN!!!!" type of moments lol. It's a sign of removal of most/all rational thought.
People are enraged about that for two reasons: A) It offers no explanation as to why the content is designed this way, which is a question that desperately needs answering (see my post about this benefitting nobody), and B) he followed it up with the false statement of "Anima is still better" sending the message that he has no idea what he is talking about.

Ultimately the internet will be the internet and there is an element of hyperbole, but the fact is that Yoshi P seemed to ignore very valid concerns and told us to "calm down" is nothing more than a shut down to a community of loyal players who feel disregarded by this mis-step. Also, I'd like to clarify... does your statement of rationality apply to me? Because I am doing my very best to explain game design theory, player psycology and sheer common sense in a rational manner, and saying "people are just being irrational" kinda hurts your argument from my perspective.

This sums it up perfectly. Keep in mind the i280s were introduced without warning just nine days after the final anima step. And nobody with concerns like having them dismissed with a hand wave being told to calm down.

See, your argument is valid for that core problem I referred to. It is not valid however, for the current situation. It may be a continuation of the problem, but it's a improperly timed criticism. I use the reference of not .
Your own sentence is contradicting what your saying :

Devs have to make gear more accessible (reducing the impact regarding prestige, even if they don't have the same exact things you do). They have to make many things available to varying quality of players to keep their attention (due to how there are tons of quality games released throughout the year). Because they arent making it more accessible with this content at all.

With this piece of content it wasn't even about the weapon , its really not about the weapon to me imo this is about SE questioning their own game design to the fullest. The only reason this weapon would of been placed in this content is because they were unsure of how this content would be received. They didn't trust the content enough to stand on its own so they placed this horrible rng weapon in there to somewhat create the illusion that the content is an instant success. There is room to be worried, because its a 280 weapon now, so whos to say when they want people to continue using this content that they wouldnt put another higher ilvl weapon in it to keep this as popular as some of their other content.

They made a big deal about a revamp and I guess in their minds just simply wernt going to fail again, so instead of seeing how things would happen on there own they add this horrible weapon in the content to kinda force peoples hands. Which just doesn't make any sense to me raiders do dun scathe for a chance to upgrade script gear, they even get the gear from there as well there is no problem with people doing the 24 mans every week. So I dont really understand why they had to go and add this weapon for no reason , you have proof that people will do content for not the best but decent gear options, so why be open to upsetting so many people when they really didnt have to.

There was a thread before even diadum came up where people were debating on what the ilvls would be people where saying 265, 270 etc nobody was gettin upset about these numbers. In fact this is what most people seemed to have expected and there was no anger, but then SE ruined it by putting something in the content that was so rare that it makes it basically non existent for the majority of players, simply because they didnt seem to trust their own judgement. So I highly doubt this is the end of diadum drama , they didnt just make this to be relevant for three months until storm blood, people have the right to be mad because this could change how gear is done in this game.
