    New & Server Suggestion Feedback

Hello fellow FFXIV players! I started my first character about a week ago - I did a bit of research before entering into the game due to the sheer amount of servers available. I decided that I wanted to be on a more populated server, thus I began the tedious task of creating my character into Leviathan.

So far, I am level 10 and taking my time hovering around Limsa Lominsa the past week to get a feel for what the community was like. I feel Leviathan server community is kind of elitist mentality and not welcoming of new players. I've asked to join the NN several times in town to no avail. Questions about crafting or where to find a simple hat my ACN could wear were left unanswered.

I could be wrong about Leviathan, but this has been my experience for the past week in Limsa, which seems pretty busy to me.

I am willing to pay for a server transfer if someone can suggest a better fit for my playstyle and what I am looking for.

Thanks for the responses in advance!

If are only level 10 it would be easier to just create another character on a different server. you could get them to 10 in an hour or so and save your money.

I would do this, but I already have several collector's items on my character that I don't want to lose. I would have created a new character already and not posted on the forums. Thanks for the response though.

I think those items are linked to your account, not a particular character.
Malboro has a number of new players and our Novice Network is fairly nice. I'd still recommend creating characters on servers you are curious about just to see how they feel before transferring.

If someone could confirm that Collector's items are account bound, that would be great.

Suggesting to create a character on all servers I am interested in seems a bit counteractive of getting new players into the game. I think I would get bored doing that and it seems these types of questions I am asking are meant for forums.

If I can have some community feedback on the question that I was truly asking, which was some insight on server locale, that would greatly help out.

So far, both in-game and forum community leads me to not subscribe - I was told numerous times about the welcoming community, perhaps that was years ago?

Collectors edition items are indeed account bound.

In all honesty, with a few exceptions like Gilgamesh and balmung, most servers are all the same. The idea that each server has a niche is one that gets tossed around, but isn't really true. You'll find the same type of community on other servers. If you don't want to role play or raid, any server will do.

The issue you're probably experiencing right now is the pre-expansion lull. A large portion of the community is checked out until stormblood drops. What's left may not be the best representation of what this game has to offer.

As to your gearing question, you'll receive gear through quest rewards until level 15, and then most of your gear will come from dungeons.

    Thank you for the response!

It's interesting that you mention each server has a niche, cos that's what it seemed like what was portrayed on the forums and reddit. I am glad to hear most servers are identical, so thanks for that clarification!

Ah..pre-expansion lull - that would make a bit of sense! I am sure the majority of the community that will come back are heavily raid centric though?

Thanks for letting me know gear come in quest rewards till lvl 15. My problem was honestly just taking the money option instead of the gear! I had a quest that required me to equip a lvl 5 or above hat, but none in the armor shop in Limsa I could wear at the time. I figured out the vendor just below the quest giving NPC has all the gear you need to complete the quest...whew!

Thanks again for the response, I might look into Gilga.

Well as a fellow Leviathan i can say true that the mentality has changed but i know a few people that came back to Levi from Gilgamesh as they indicated that community was very much elitist.
If you decide to stick around Leviathan feel free to contact me, i do not mind helping out when available

Umm... why the negativity? She offered helpful advice that's relevant to your question, both a server suggestion and advice on how best to handle the transfer (to wherever you end up going).

Transferring an existing character to another server costs real money, and for many players, it's worth verifying first that the money would be well spent. If that doesn't matter to you, and you'd find trying it out to be boring, that's fine. You don't have to try out a server in advance, but there's nothing negative in suggesting it.

It's one thing for a community to not be welcoming, and another for you to flat out reject their welcome and get angry at people for trying to be helpful.

Welcome to the game. Let me add something to your statements you have made, since it's far from being accurate. Leviathan used to be a very popular and active server within the raid community. It was based more on hardcore and middle core (is that even a word? lol) groups, in comparison to other servers, that have more casual groups. This mentality was not just set in statics but also displayed on content that is/was advertised via PF, and people were very strict about that.

Not to go into huge depth here, but it defiantly was more "elitist" than it is nowadays.

Times have changed, a lot of very good skilled players/groups left levi and transferred to other servers, Gilgamesh as example but not the only server tho. Others quit and went to play something else. Whatever the reason might be, Levi is very quite especially during long patch breaks, or so called filler patches. PF is a lot of what I call "wannabe" advertisement, most of these groups that sound elitist, can't beat any content or waiting for people to carry them through it. Sadly to say, it's more of trap parties than actual fun or successful clear parties.

Most of our FC's are not active, and the ones that are active, aren't recruiting or recruiting only specific classes and with a specific player skill. You wont find a lot of people that like to run older content, unless they can unsync it, since they weren't able to clear it the first time around (as it was new and shiny). We do have a lot of casual fc's around, and at night time for example, most of the people online are crafters and gatherers.

One thing you're being correct with is, that most of our statics are players that play together since 2.0 or even earlier. Others are a bunch of friends, that will only add 1 or 2 people to their group, and than it's based on so called "reputation". If you're new to the game, and you can't show your credentials, most likely you're not going to be added to that group, unless you can show outstanding player skills during their trial runs. These statics are mostly not on PF, but interacting within LS's and FC's etc.

Now I am not saying its a server that is so bad, that you shouldn't join it, but if you're looking for more of the "elitist, hardcore" groups/statics/fc's out there, than Levi is not your server. It might change with 4.0 coming around, but most of the good raiders have found a home on a other server and not going to transfer back.
