No I mean like Drg vs monk and ninja, I come from maining a monk and monk and ninja do not have the same as other classes once Huton and gl3 are up. Personally I don't see Sam as a speed class from what was said and shown at fanfest. But time will tell how it's going to play ^^I'll lv up and probably play both, but it's more likely that i'll "main" SAM.
I used to be meh about RDM, before they announced it, but since they showed it, it looks fun.
it will have the same gcd as every other job...
i guess you mean the heavy hitting skills, having a charge-up time - not all skills will have that, or it would be like melee brd/mch.
Both. Samurai for my main character and Red Mage for my other. ^^

I'm going Samurai Champloo on Omega's butt!![]()

I'm probably going to go RDM since I enjoy ranged classes. RDM might also be that class that helps me adjust to a melee class some day.
Or have you charging into your death.
On that note: I expect a lot of complain about Samurai's Charge attacks lacking "Mobility" and Red Mage Melee Combat being a double edge sword when going into melee combat with Mage type gears.
Prepare the Popcorn for 4.0!
I actually really really want to play both... is that possible?

I'm not particularly excited about either job. I WAS excited for RDM - until I learned that they were making it a ranged caster, just like the two other ranged casters we already have (five others, if you include DPSing healers). Was pumped for a melee mage, but all we get is a couple dart-in attacks. Eh, who knows, maybe they'll impress me and I'll turn my attitude around later.
As it stands, I guess SAM is a bit more interesting to me. They're definitely playing up a lot of Samurai tropes with that one, and it looks visually quite cool.
i don't mind the Range Combat style since I usually favor Range combat over melee combat more. It also fills in the Range Sword job role which usually is a Sword Mage type of Job in most Fantasy games anyways.
They'll probably introduce the dedicated Melee Sword Mage later as we move to more magic involved areas in future Expansions.
From what was said you'll be doing a bit of the basic 123 combos anyways with Samurai as that job requires building up a type of Energy/Stack to spend on their Heavy Charge Attack skills which sounds similar to Warrior mechanic but require more consideration on when to use since the Skills need sometime to charge and players may not be able to move while the skill charges.
Red Mage seems to have a 123 set up as well but from what we seen there are a few off cooldown skills for weaving into combo and then the melee mechanic aspect as the finisher.

I am conflicted, I know that I will level them both to max level eventually, but I have not decided if its going to be the Samurai or the Red Mage first. I will wait till I know more about both classes. If Red Mage was a real hybrid class, then I would have picked Red Mage.
