It doesn't invalidate anything. The rng for the 280 weapon is insane and the savage and relic weapons are still very much useful. You don't have to have BiS to play the game. You don't have to have BiS to even be good.

Boohoo, it won't matter on June 20 anyway.
Methinks people need to learn the definition of "invalidate"
Last I checked, an i180 weapon does not make your i160, i170, or i175 weapon useless. All content in the current game can still be completed with an i160 weapon. Therefore, they are not "invalidating" anything.
Invalidating? No. Showing a complete disregard for? Yes, entirely.
Ask yourself why you do anything you do in game? For progression? For rewards? For fun? Well let me shut down the "just for fun" bit right now: Progressing and earning rewards IS fun. WINNING is fun. Plain and simple. Spare me the "it's not all about. . ." bit. It is. We're gamers. It IS. It always is.
Now this game, to this point has etched out a formula it follows, offering several options, all effectively to the same type of end rewards, proportional to the work put in. Like a challenge and you've got skills? You raid. Not much time, but skilled? You go for tome/primal weapons. Got time, perhaps not much skill? Relics are the long road to the top. SE's never tried to play coy about these things, and anyone who pursues any of these goals is free to pursue one, all, or even none if they wish. But you know what you're getting into, where the road leads, and what the reward is. Generally, by the time you get it, it's an accomplishment that you would, and should be proud of.
. . . Only now, they've literally broken the formula to try and sell people on a content that was NOT improved, but combined with other questionably-popular content, and slapped one big reward on it, entirely without warning. A reward that entirely defies the concept of proportional rewards for the time, effort, or skill you put into whichever option you chose prior.
Plain and simple: Raiding will not give you an i280 weapon. The relic will not become an i280 weapon. A far less time consuming or challenging content than both methods I just mentioned does. That entirely makes no sense, and even gating it behind walls and walls of RNG don't justify it either. For those that chose those options, an option that requires far less time, skill, or effort leads to a greater reward, and that is where the disappointment sets in.
This has been said, and repeated many times now, and if you don't see it, or choose not to see it, that's on you. It doesn't change what they've done, nor the huge defiance of their own formula in doing it.
It won't matter June 16th, actually. Early access!
But some people don't really care because it's not something to cry about, all weapons, regardless of iLv will be replaced with weapons that will be guaranteed, and not behind 4 layers of RNG. If you really want to cry about the fact that your weapon got "invalidated" during the LAST 94 DAYS OF RELEVANCY, then you need a reality check. I think people are too quick to cry about it, especially at the end of an expansion arc, if it were during Midas, sure, we still had quite a long way to go yet. i275 raid weapons remained relevant for a much longer time than these i280 weapons will be relevant for.

I started the anima to have the BiS from when it completed until SB launched. I wanted the best. If I wanted very good, I would have gone with Triad/Kinna/Shire weapons. Slightly less powerful for 1/1000 of the work. And now, just nine days later my anima becomes just a very good weapon. There was no precident or warning. I had BiS for a whopping nine days, then *yoink*! All because they knew the new Diadem was garbage and throwing in i280 weapons was easier then actually, you know, making it fun.

I am going to be honest. I was rather worried and somewhat upset when I saw the 280 weapons were in diadem originally. However considering I haven't even seen one drop I am far less bothered by it. Trying to grind to get a weapon for my main spec in the Diadem is like trying to gear up by only ever winning the Jumbo Cackpot. The chances that one will drop, combined with the chance it will actually be a weapon for the spec you want, is stupidly low. Probably somewhere in the range of about 0.2%. Considering that chance only happens every couple of hours, you could spend months grinding the diadem and never get what you want.
I actually enjoy the diadem. I am going to still be doing it, but not for the weapons. Its a nice change of pace from dungeons and such.
