Report them in game immediately after the fact.
That is the only thing you can do to have a chance of them disappear for good. Not reporting, or just vent in forum, doesn't change nothing and them will continue to be free to roam around.

What about mentors who do want to help, but are met with cold, rude replies?

To be fair this goes both ways, anyone can be a jerk not just mentors, anyone can initiate the kick, others even have to vote on it. A jerk is a jerk if they dont have a crown next to their name that wont stop them from being a jerk and trying to initiate kicking people.

This thread is about mentor but the title isn't in cap.

Unfortunately, I don't think FF14 GMs have the man power to address every mentor concerning rudeness. There is also no option for reporting a mentor in the help/contact section. There only concern is harrashment, verbal abuse (offensive language and/or cursing), or mentor kick abuse in the mentor channel. You cannot report a mentor by being rude. Only if they harrash you. This is why we have the black list. I do not know if the black list works in dungeons though.

I never even used the mentor system when I had the new player icon. I declined every invite. It's not even hard to learn how to play just look up the dungeons before you queue, and read your skills when you get them. Now if you see me doing bad that is because of LAG! I wish I still had the icon so I could have a nice big(ger) excuse for doing terrible.

Bad Mentor Solution: Become a good mentor to outweigh the bad.
A mentor stole my house, slapped me across the face, and raised my ping from 15 to 30. Literally unplayable.
