I got 2 classes! Which do i switch to in the story?

Ok so i got 2 classes and from what i hear they are both strong dps. I have a lvl 21 arhcer and a lvl 5 Black mage (Bfore it of course the thaumau something) I was wondering if i can play the black mage doing the story and ignore the archer. I can't really decide. Could i get some help

You can do the story with whatever job you prefer!
Being a magic user, Black Mages has to stand still to cast their spells. You will be very restricted in movement so you'll learn where it's safe to stand during boss fights. The trade off to this immobility is massive damage-dealing spells.
Bard is much more mobile than Black Mage. It's mobility lessens at level 52 but even then it's not a turret like the Mage. Bard's damage comes from several sources so you'll be pressing buttons in quicker succession than with Black Mage. Bard also has some songs that supports the party, most notably a song that makes enemies take more damage from spells, so other magic users will love you.

Since you already have Archer at 21, maybe you could try levelling your Thaumaturge up to the same level and see which one you like the most? The most important aspect is that you have fun playing your chosen job!

to be honest, you should unlock palace of the dead and look at both classes/jobs. While archer is great at the low & mid levels, and even at 50 a amazing job to play, it's in my personal opinion a pain in the butt when you reach HW content and level (52+) and the same for black mage. I and other can't tell you which class/job you should be playing, it's absolutely up to you, however if you are running a couple of days palace of the dead, you'll be able to experience these classes from level 1-60 (excluding the abilities you're getting from your job quests) and would probably figure out what's more fun for you to play.

I main blm and whm, I have my brd (archer) up at lv 59 now. Bard is fun to play and all but I love my black Mage just the sheer dmg output I can do with blm is insane, learning the proper rotation for blm is pretty easy too. The downside to blm is that you do have to remain still to cast your spells but they do pack a good punch.
