Stop Giving the "Need" Command for Drop Gear in Dungeons to Higher Geared Players!

I am getting sick and tired of finding a piece of gear I need for one of my Job classes and someone with higher lvl gear who clearly doesn't need it anymore goes and hits the "Need" button anyways and snatches it away!

Higher levels geared players should NOT have the ability to do that and needs to be changed where they have to gamble with their luck through the Greed command like everyone else who's Job class doesn't relate to a certain piece of drop gear in a dungeon.

It's Usability-based. If you can equip it on your class, you can Need, if not you can only Greed. You want gear for a class, go into the dungeon on that class.

Does it suck if someone in i270 Needs on random dungeon gear? Sometimes. But if you really want the gear, run the dungeon as the right class to get it, don't whine and complain.

Except I've been in groups with two dps of the same type and lost the piece to people who had maxed gear. I get the whole they need it for seals or glamour etc but need should really only be if it is an upgrade imo. However, usually, if you ask nicely at the start of the run most will accommodate you If they are not looking for gear upgrades as well. Doesn't always work but give it a try.

Just wanted to point out, this only mostly works. I recall while leveling DRG, there's that weird middle-ground gear that's for tanks and also DRG. It's pretty low class tank gear (imo), plus the tanks already have tank-only gear. But if you're running DRG, you do not get the option to Need on that particular set, despite it being generally pretty good for the class/job (at least I thought so, it made a nice alternative for "I want to live" gear, rather than focusing everything into dps).

But anyway, re: Needing for GC seals, wouldn't it be so much faster/easier to FATE grind for those? I mean, I don't know how much you can get out of higher end FATEs, or what the conversion rate is for higher gear sets. And I know FATE grinding is a bit mind numbing (although be honest, dungeons aren't often very exciting either). But seems like you could spend 20-30 minutes rolling FATEs, and get as much or more seals as you would from Needing gear. But I could be wrong I guess.
Desynth is still valid, I suppose.

And what if you ARE on the same class?

Sorry, 'needing' on an item which is inferior to yours shouldn't be enabled, you don't NEED it you're by definition being GREEDy and games should do anything they can to mitigate player selfishness.

I never said if you run on a class the loot should be your guaranteed, I said if you really want it, play that class (because it logically has the best odds of getting it, which I implied rather than explicitly stated). Yes, DPS do have a higher chance of running into the issue of multiple people of same class both being able to Need on gear and get screwed more often that way, but that's a chance everyone takes.

I will reiterate, again, since you didn't seem to understand what I said: item level is not everything. Almost every piece of gear in this game has multiple uses and purposes. Each use is subjectively rated by each individual to fit thier own preferences and priorities. Nobody has an inherent superior need for the gear except the person actually playing that class at that moment the gear drops. You clearly are defining inferior based on ilvl and stats, but you fail to account for things like aesthetics, desynthability, and conversion values.

Ugh, I finished that grind a few months ago after coming back from a break. I don't even wanna think about the extra coke needed to upgrade it after its leveled.

    No, not at all.

People might need it for glamour, GC seals, or desythesis. None of those actions are any less valid or "necessary" than you wearing it. In fact, it could be argued that you using it for stats is LESS valid than them using it for the previously stated because you will be replacing it if you got if for stats very soon.

Are you aware we have a glamour system? Have you considered they might be running the dungeon for the express purpose of getting said item for glamour? Also, are you aware you can turn in those items for GC seals, which everyone can use? Or desynthesis?

If you are not playing the role of a piece of gear, and they are, then they are entitled to need on it. If you don't like the chance that someone else will get a piece of gear you want, then don't run the dungeon with randoms. Do it with friends who will let you have the item or ask your random group beforehand.

Literally all of this. A shirt I wanted wasn't available on the MB, so I intended to run the required dungeon for it. My 60 MNK may have not needed it, but it would have made a nice glamour and piece of optimal EQ for if I decided on trying out a DoW that I never bothered with. Plus, as a FC owner, encouraging my members to contribute to points I feel is a must. And GC turn ins do increase them.

Why shouldn't players who run the content have the same rights of rolling on drops? Those players put in effort too. Sure it's nice if everyone defers to a new player. But enforcing that as a rule seems quite unfair and will certainly reduce the number of players willing to run in DF.
