There is also what was mentioned that sometimes the items they choose to buy will not sell on the new server of their choosing. Sure you can do all the research you want, watch the markets of the server you plan to go to, check the previous listings and what they sold for, but that doesn't guarantee that what you buy on your old server will sell for that amount on your new one.

I've watched markets back when I used to do what I mentioned above on an item worth 30k consistently on another server and I made a bunch of said item only to find out when I transfer the price dropped to 5k with no sign of going back up. It's a gamble. But why not eliminate the gamble for those who want to truthfully transfer to a lower population server where they can actually purchase a house?

No they won't add a NPC for this, that make the rule pointless and might as well just take it away instead of placing a NPC for this purpose.

Well, your choices are either buy those pieces at a premium and get to keep some of your gil, or don't and lose all of it. I doubt SE is going to do anything to remove one of the few gil sinks the game has, sadly.

Unless someone can say otherwise; I don't see how this could be in any way game breaking or unfair.
Please remove the limitation on Gil transfer!

That's the point! It's a disincentive to transfer to larger servers. Do you want more people on Balmung and an even 'worse' economy? Because removing the restrictions is how you'd get more people on Balmung and a worse economy ('worse' in this context being hyper efficient to where the cost of labor drops to nearly nothing). Right now, the restriction makes it profitable to transfer away from Balmung and costly to transfer to Balmung. That throws a big kink into any round-trip money making schemes and helps keep people off of Balmung. Balmung get's to be less bloated and smaller servers get to keep their economies intact.

Do realize that just because you can't afford to spend $36 to transfer 8 characters and 64 retainers worth of goods between and gil on a round trip gil making venture doesn't mean that others can't. The devs have to design the rules around people who will do that. The rules we have aren't perfect, but dropping the gil moving restriction would mean even worse problems. In this case, you'd probably have Balmung stuck with long prime-time ques while small servers get flooded with Balmung goods. Lose-Lose. No thanks!

I don't think you have to worry about the devs ever creating an official RP server. As much as I, and many, would love to see it, there are at least as many out there that would throw a fit. Much of Balmung's RP community would go berserk if any other server got the RP tag because they 'don't want to fragment the community'...despite the obvious fact the community is fragmented by excluding all those RPers that don't want to deal with Balmung's problems. I can just imagine the epic battles between Balmung RPers that own houses and the Balmung RPers that want to move to the new RP server with available housing.

If it does happen though, you don't have to worry about losing gil if you're willing to play smart! Just do the same thing you should do going to any smaller economy server. Buy Balmung's cheap goods with your excess gil and sell them when you get to the other server. There are plenty of commodity items that get bought pretty fast. In the event of a mass exodus, the profit margins and speed of sales will sink due to all the competition, but you should still be able to come out with a tidy profit if you're a little patient on the sales side.

Honestly though, if there ever is an official RP server, I'd rather it be a new server entirely with transfers locked for a year to let it get a fresh start. That would be fun and I think the community there would benefit from being shielded from all the baggage that comes from established characters jumping in from all over...and not just talking Balmung. A lot of us RPers don't like overfilled servers so we're all over the place!

Because SE doesn't want to make it easily abusable and disrupt different worlds economies. If it was up to them, they would probably even prevent us from buying items and reselling them, but they can't do that without making players not being able to transfer items at all, which would hurt everyone who transfers. So you can do that, but it's at your own risk. I personally used to make millions of gil a day effortless just by selling several runs a day on a big server, and when I transfered to this really small one for static purposes, everything here was double if not triple more expensive. I made a lot of extra gil by selling things that would cost less than 100k gil on my previous server, and would be like 300-400k on the small one. Now imagine transfering all that money back to the previous one, people could abuse this so easily (rl cost tho) and would completely break the market.
