my girlfriend and I were talking about this suggestion and how stupid it is and we listed off the uses for grand company seals that we could think of from lvl1-60. The list is as follows:
    1) rank up in the grand company
    2) get cheap lvling gear cause you dont want to craft it yourself or are broke
    3) crafting mats
    4) chocobo
    5) barding
    6) stat reset cause you done flubbed up
    7) squadrons
    8) fc points
    9) rank up fc
    10) anima stuff
    11) gc themed housing items
    12) an fc room (goes along with the gc rank)
    13) fc to gc affinity

im sure there is more that we didn't think of, but you get the idea. and this is just for trading in gear for seals.

I took a break from the forums for a couple days (computer needed upgrading) and I come back and see this post -.-. I just have one question Cordie: you seem to act as though there is some other fantastic way to get GC seals that the rest of us do not know about. It would be cool if you would elaborate on that seeing as though I'm heavily dependent on moonstones for crystal sand for my relic right now.

I'll also say that honestly people do not need to "refute" your opinion on this matter. The fact is that if you aren't playing as the class that you want the gear for then you are a bad planner. I leveled a monk to 60. When I want the ilvl 245 MNK gear for my MNK from the current EX Roulette I do not queue up as my SMN I queue up as...my MNK. If I magically get into a dungie where the other dps is also a MNK I don't fret if he rolls a higher need than me. Obviously he NEEEEEEDS it for something and whatever he needs it for is no less important than for what I need it for.

Excuse me but who are you to decide what piece of gears are used for lol. This is the reason why your suggestion is a failure. Also you're wrong. Desynthesis for example actually IS specific to DoM/DoW since you need to desyn items under certain DoH category that can only be rolled by certain jobs. And like I say in the other thread, people give different values to items. If I were farming seals, desynthesis or glamour, what would make your stat gear farming more valuable than mine? therefore each queue in respective jobs for their respective drops. Otherwise, you should say bye bye to queue timers and sit forever in it.

OP is suggesting that an effort be made to enforce Greed lots for gear that is not going to be used as equipment, or for glamour. The intent is to put them on even footing with other players, when using those items in ways that anyone would be able to.

I don't see the need. The current system is fine. If a player wants to use their class to lock down a piece of gear that they intend to use for job-independent purposes, that's perfectly all right. Since everyone in the party is on a job of some kind, everyone has even chances of locking down a piece of gear, for whatever purpose they plan to use it. Over time, everyone has equal opportunity to acquire gear for various purposes - and if you have actual job specific purposes, you can come on that job to tilt the odds in your favor.

The suggestion the OP makes for enforcing this, too, is questionable in the case of glamour, which the OP seems to recognize as a valid use for job-specific lotting. Who is going to want to wear a piece of glamour gear until it reaches 10% spiritbond?

Well, that's the thing. It is even right now, this suggestion would break it because it's solely based on biased values.
Also another flaw, how would the system decide if you're rolling it for stats/glamour or seals/desynth. Everyone would just roll it on glamour option and then use it for whatever, making it completely useless.

sad part is, the expert trade in system was added to gc specifically because players were siting on a ton of gear they couldn't get rid of.

trading in pink-blue/purple gear nets you a good amount of gc seals which you do need to do and rank up in your gc to open some portions of the game. Like chocobo aka mounts. if you can't get seals for gc, you can't get chocobo. if can't get chocobo can't use any mount.
if you can't use any mounts, you can't fly, which some side quests do require flight. Like kitty on a cold tin roof.

fc you can't get gear to trade in for seals, ranking up a fc is painful. And tons of fc features are locked behind fc ranks.

One can PVP roulette and get all 235 gear. It's easy, you can run PVP all day and gear your role high enough to do most content. I have a new alt on gilgamesh and she's done everything except the new expert dungeons and Dun and some expert primals cause she isn't high enough yet (only 216 atm). She almost capped scripture this week and just turned 60 a couple days ago.

Why is glamour rated higher than seals - which can be used to buy glamour?

Even though I'm sure this is rhetorical: Because the OP personally only cares about glamour and stats - so every other second use needs to be limited ofc!

This is a terrible, very self serving suggestion. What's someone supposed to do with the gear after they're done with it?
