That's just depressing, the logical conclusion of your argument is to roll a Samurai in 4.0 and forget everything else.

Joking aside... the game I played before FFXIV had tanks, healers and DPS with a skill system that allowed players to create hybrid builds and no trinity focus or restriction built into the combat system. However even there I felt a bit more like a tank or healer depending on my skill build, than I often do in FFXIV. Given the stricter definition of the jobs and trinity of roles in FFXIV, I cannot for a moment believe that it's impossible for SE's team to balance the game in a way that values all 3 roles distinctly.

So i'm still a bit confused here, when they change the jobs and all i thought i heard them say that they wanted to add a "role" setup like something DC Universe has now. Does that mean any class could setup for any role? Like Dark ready as a DPS or something?

As a crafter, I'm laughing at the notion of potentially craftable beards. Tattoos would be awesome though, give us some more uses for those alchemy inks.

Unfortunately, it's not a joke. The devs have a horrible habit of making whatever is new and shiny grossly overpowered, until they nerf the daylights out of it AFTER people have invested time and effort into leveling and gearing it.

Permanent Enochian?! Removal of Thunder II and III in favor of just upping Thunder's potency?!

I know it's the class that Yoshi-P plays in demos, but geez, do they just love BLM more than anything else or something?
Though I'm almost kind of disappointed in Enochian becoming a permanent buff since I'd gotten so used to enjoying juggling it, constantly improving on the back-and-forth. Well, hopefully whatever new skills and other reworks there are will keep things interesting, rather than feeling like a step backwards towards the ARR Playstyle.

Improvements to the chat are nice to hear. Very wary about the idea of tattoos and body hair being equips rather than character customization; on the one hand I doubt they'd ever increase the number of equip slots so you'd have to sacrifice one for the cosmetic you want on your model, but on the other you'd probably just use "Emperor's New X" anyway to display whatever if you just applied it in character customization. Bigger concern I suppose would be even more inventory clutter... sure we're getting an expansion (literally) for it, but with stuff like this how long will the new space even last?

AST and MCH beg to differ. Both were released brokenly weak and only recently were overbuffed to compensate.

Thank you for the post, I did enjoy reading up on that.

I always did figure they would do something like combine abilities like the two tank abilities. I do wonder what new skills will come out of it, maybe role or maybe job specific.

Them getting rid of Thunder II / III would be a nice change and something I'd like them to do with Stone II / III. Making it a trait that enhances it would do just fine.

The only thing I wonder is the maintaining stacks by using the UI, for the Monk example, the orbs. Having an animation that makes you feel like you've powered up is great, I just worry with all the flashy animations out there, how hard will it be to keep a visible track of it? It's not bad from a caster standpoint watching orbs float around you, but I notice when I was trying to do DRG, I had to tone things down on my settings because it was just a blinding light sometimes.

What? At release, Machinist and Astro were basically garbage while Dark Knight saw niche usage until Gordias came out and made Paladins everywhere cry. It took nearly two years and buffing Astro into Scholar and Warrior levels just to finally convince people to start playing it. Likewise, Machinist saw frequent updates throughout the year before it finally jumped into the meta. If anything, XIV's track record suggests Red Mage and Samurai will be weak not overpowered.
