Advice for a new tank player gearing for Stormblood

Hello! New to the game and interested in tanking for Stormblood content! I plan on joining a heavy end game raiding company eventually. I'm planning on being a WAR MAINLY, but I will also try to level PAL, though it will be a secondary focus.

What would be your advice in gearing up for the expansion? I mean this in terms of what dungeons to farm in what order (once I hit level cap, or even before), and what gear I should be looking for to get my item level up to an acceptable range.

I could just do it all, but I'm sure there are certain items and dungeons that are a more efficient us of my time and to get tanking gear, right?

    Thanks in advance!

Unlock your roulettes, especially "Level60" and "Expert". For this you have to unlock every dungeon through story and sidequests.
For Stormblood id should be enough to get a whole set of the augmented shire gear, cause you have to level from 60 to 70 in Stormblood and this gear, despite it is not BiS, will probably hold until level 64 to 65, like the the augmented ironworks held till around 55.
Shire Gear can be bought in Idleshire.
You can also try to get into Alexander Savage and get some accessoires from A9S and maybe something from A10S.

For Tanks most BiS Gear is found in Alexander Creator Savage, except the Headpiece and some Accessoires from the Shire set.

Yet one shoul be able to level straight trough from 1-70 later so i guess you need absolutely nothing to be able to continue. Just level gear.
Best Gear is BiS. It only depends how fast you want to level it seems.

Since you're a new player, this is what's best: focus on your story until you reach lvl 60, then PvP a lot with frontlines shatter. That stuff queues up incredibly quickly. With the wolf marks you earn, you buy the garo gear for your class. One shatter game gives like 900 marks just for earning 2nd place and the most expensive pieces cost 4000 marks. Easily you can earn that in an hour. In no time, you can gear yourself up to i235. Then you should unlock alexander the creator, grind that until you have all the i250 pieces, and of course unlock dun scaith for your weekly i260 piece. With that, unlock and beat sophia extreme 10 times to get your i255 weapon. next step after that is to unlock your i265 weapon with zurvan extreme by the same process.

I don't feel roulettes are the best recommendation here. It's the most reasonable, but for someone who wants to be within acceptable range in a short amount of time, the above route is best. Roulettes cap you at 450 scrip a week, with your 260 weapon being gated behind 7 weeks no matter how much scrip you have. chest and legs cost around 870 each, and that'd take at least two weeks of waiting time. However, 265 zurvan weapon can be obtained in little as a day either with luck or persistence. That isn't to say roulettes are to be neglected, go ahead and do them and meet your cap if you'd like, those pieces will be welcomed and handy, but the above will allow you to get in the game much more quickly and effectively. This gear can even let you get into a9s/a10s to earn some i270 peices too, which are the best you can get for this expansion and will come in handy for stormblood.

Thing to keep in mind is that the most important piece of gear is your weapon. Raiding at il255 with an il200 sword/axe will get you kicked super quick.

As far as gear teirs, I found progression is easiest this way

ARR il120/130 Ironworks/Augmented (it's cheap to upgrade Ironworks gear and this set can take you to l56/7)
HW il200 via hunts (it's stupid cheap) turn in at Forgotten Knight (Foundation)
    Upgrade to 230 via Idylshire
Upgrade to 245 by running expert roulette dungeons
Upgrade to 260+ via Alex savage, DS, Proto Ultima weekly (right side equips only) and shire pieces via Idylshire.

First time was slow. But after yhey first class it is easy.

Never raid undergeared. Passes people ooooff

let me tell you something very important from my experience. when you hit 50, buy vendor gear in foundation. when you hit 60, there's a vendor node in azys la. because you'll be leveling so fast, the next thing you know, you'll be in the xpac, or you'll be at end game, and woefully undergeared. you could slide by as a damage dealer, but will cause a lot of problems as a tank

the higher its ilvl the better it is unless you are one of those "omg i need to be top dps on tank stance so i need 9999 crit on my gear" so try to upgrade ur shire gear to 270 and soon we will be able to upgrade the shire weapon too with other means other than doing savage tier raids, they probably goin to release higher ilvl gears on dungeons maybe from 65+ like how they did with heavensward so while leveling dungeon gears are always nice

I wouldn't do the PvP at all, honestly. Palace of the Dead will get you an i255 weapon (and a ton of experience along the way) and running 60's roulette and Aetherium Research Facility will get you Lore which you can buy i230 armor and accessories with. Once you hit i235, expert roulette plus 60's roulette will get you to easily hit the Scripture cap and you'll be able to run Dun Scaith for i260 armor and i270 accessories (1 per week). It really doesn't take long to go from fresh 60 (around i145) to i230+ as a tank (especially if you make healer friends). Enjoy!

Getting a kinna weapon takes muuuuuch longer than to get full i235 from pvp and sophia weapon. That's not even mentioning the ever-so-tedious ARF grind just to afford an entire 230 set.
