There is only minimal benefit from mixing primary stats beyond "I don't have something better; I don't want to be naked."

Spellcasters would gain autoattack damage from increased STR. This would require them to stay in melee range and activate autoattacks.
STR/DEX classes would not gain increased magic damage from increased INT. Those that have magic damage are still based on their attack power. So DRK magic damage is based on STR/VIT, as is PLD Clemency.
Cross class skills depend on their power source, which is largely dependent on their class of origin: Second Wind is based on attack power, so STR VIT or DEX as applies to the class using them. Physic or Cure are based on healing power so MND would increase their healing. Blizzard II is based on magic power so INT would increase it's damage.

Everyone will get the HP from VIT, MP from PIE, the secondary stats, and the defence/magic defense on armor. In most cases even these would be downgrades from what is properly available for the class.
