Does anyone else feel dissatisfied with Samurai after the Live Letter XXXVI video?

After first watching the Samurai job announcement trailer during EU fest, I kind of felt indifferent about Samurai as a whole based on the way it was presented, but I decided to just wait patiently until I saw more of the job class because more than likely a lot of its more interesting abilities hadn't been shown off yet. However, after seeing the Live letter video showing off samurai's main ability rotation, I was kind of just left with an underwhelmed feeling in comparison to all the other job classes.

Does anyone else feel this way? I really feel like many of the abilities are stale, uncreative, and in some cases look pretty unfinished and sometimes pixelated. I really feel like this job just seems like it is lacking much of the "Fantasy" aspect that this game is intended to bring. When I see the current samurai, it looks mostly just like a real life Samurai, which may have been intended.

Although I may sound like a five year old in saying, I'd really like more flashiness within the class as least in the future when we go up to lvl 80 and beyond. More swift movement, maybe some teleportation, afterimage clones from fast movements, flips, and simply just more eye catching animations.

    Here's a good example:
In FFXI tenzen uses an ability called Amatsu: Tsukikage on Ramuh, which you can see at 2:27 in the following video. It is a series of slashes around the enemy while teleporting.

Nope, its classy and very samurai feeling. Exaggerated explosions and lightshows would have done the job a disservice IMO.

It's a job whose finishing moves are based on Iaijutsu, and as a Rurouni Kenshin lover I have zero complaints. It's not as flashy and "loud" as Red Mage, but while RDM does amazing in that department, Samurai doesn't need to. I'm excited to play both come Stormblood, and my judgments will come after feeling the classes play.

I actually thought everything looked really nice and clean, but still attractive. I was more drawn to the way the character moved their body than the particle effects, I guess, if that makes sense.

That being said, we still haven't seen everything -- there might be some more flashy abilities waiting to be discovered, though I admit they probably would have shown those off.

Yeah I think they would have shown Samurai's flashy abilities first if they actually existed. I guess if everyone feels pretty satisfied with the job then I can't complain. I'd rather the majority be pleased with the class rather than just me. Samurai may just be one of those jobs I don't play much, but I'll give it a try regardless. I'll admit that there is a certain level of beauty in its movement and its simplicity to its fighting style, but it just didn't match up with what I had in my head. FFXIV keeps bringing it when it comes to creativity and wow factor, and I just felt a little bit caught off guard with this job because I didn't feel like they really captured their full potential with this particular job class.

I can definitely see where you're coming from, even if I didn't really have the same expectations. Maybe you'll find it more fun to play than to look at, which is probably not the worst thing in the world, haha. I know I didn't find Bard all that aesthetically pleasing at first, but it really grew on me over time, and now it's my main. Just a few flashier moves like Wide Volley, Empyreal Arrow, and Sidewinder made the difference for me in the short term.

And hey, just because others are pleased doesn't mean you have to forfeit your right to complain!

Yeah I think I'll enjoy the class despite it feeling a bit lackluster in some areas if I give it a chance. Like you said, sometimes just a few abilities looking cool can be enough to make you come back to the class. The Samurai AoE/spiral attack that it did during the live letter video looked amazing, for example. If anything I think just running around Kugane with my sword unsheathed in sprint mode will be enough to satisfy me haha. I really like the aesthetic of samurai as a whole, but I think maybe watching too much Bleach and Samurai Champloo (looking at you Mugen) may have biased my opinion a bit.

I feel dissatisfied with the live letter in general because they wasted too much talking about BLM mechanics when there are more interesting classes that could have used some of the time.

I would say Samurai is clean, precise, and to the point. Every action is about being highly efficient and effective. I like that.

This pretty much sums up how I feel about SAM. I also agree that any "flashy" stuff would have done this job a huge disservice. It is flashy where it needs to be.
