i really hope that someday we get an optional HD texture option (additional download from SE servers) in the launcher for those who want/can run it

Yep this is what we got now and there are no signs of improving the horrible textures. They really need to address this along with some other things.i remember this photo i saw on FFXIV reddit:

While I do agree that clipping sucks and the armor doesn't look quite right sometimes, if the game was decked out in the best graphics out there and such I wouldn't be able to play. I can't afford a good desktop right now (though hubby and I are saving for one) so I understand. That said I think the animations could use some work as well. I recommended back in beta that the WHM cure spell should look different than it does when casting. Just doesn't look like you're trying to heal.

Build one yourself and buy components slowly. There are some crazy deals sometimes. I spent nearly $2k on my pc+kb/mouse and I think I saved about $700 total after all was said and done. Building your own and shopping smart are the keys to amazing gaming rigs on a budget.
But honestly the clipping gets out of hand sometimes. I mean the new relic bow clips...the ground when your on a perfectly flat plain. They should know better than that. That really is shoddy and a developer fail.
When I'm running or fighting it's one thing but there is no reason when I am standing idle my hands should clip into my clothing or my hair should be clipping through my robe either. This is all stuff that should just be standard. If it would get you an F or reduce your marks in an animation class, it should not be commonplace in your game. Even modders in other titles do better work than actual paid SE employees sometimes. And no amount of defending for the devs can excuse that.
The issue with the glasses may be due to a collision mesh. Having worked with the Unreal Engine 4 I know a little about character model creation. When you model a character (or any 3d object) in 3d program and want players/objects to collide with it you also have to make a mesh for collision purposes. Collision meshes can actually take up a ton of resources depending on the size, shape or number of meshes currently being rendered.A lot of times a developer will just make a boxey or cylindrical mesh around the model to save on resources. That might be the case here. The glasses are basically affixed to the collision mesh and not the character model mesh. It isn't so much about being lazy or doing shoddy work. In some game engines it is necessary to make a lower quality collision mesh in order for the game to run at a decent speed. If you have 200 players in an area and they all have a complex collision meshes your game is probably going to be unplayable, even for a higher end pc.
This post almost reminds me of FFXIV 1.0. The graphics looks amazing, character detail, clothing, etc. was on point. Yet, by having that was eating up resources of my PC to the point it was literally getting hot. As if ppl already forgotten about that for some strange reason. As much ppl want that back, unless they are in that field, knowing the ins and outs of how programming works and such, try to convince a team of japanese workers that this need to happen w/o some sort of sacrifice, I wouldn't get thy hopes up.
the thing is, like 1.0 music, they probably have all 1.0 assets (models and textures etc.) archived somewhere. so all they have to do is convert them to the format the current FFXIV engine uses without downsizing the higher res textures and add them as an option for people who want better textures - i don't think that'll involve much (if any at all) sort of programming. i do believe this shouldn't take too much dev time and resources to do
EDIT: even for HW models, the textures for those are most likely made in HD resolution first and then downsized for release and every proper dev always has a backup or archive of their work
