I'll present the compromise:
Fashionista
The Quest
Redolent Rose gives you a quest involving the imminent coming of a world-famous fashion guru. Someone who seems to have a reputation for turning complete fashion disasters into the epitome of chic and style with very little effort. Your task is to ensure the fashionista makes it from the airship landing in Ul'dah all the way to the weaver's guild, as she has a tendency of getting...distracted by the commonfolk.
You run to the airship landing to find Lola, assistant to the fashionista, who is in a panic since the fashionista herself vanished not long after landing in Ul'dah. So now you have to run around the city looking to find her. You can tell where she's been by interacting with NPCs that have peculiar outfits who comment about how they were saved by the fashionista. This eventually leads you to a cutscene of a group of people being lectured by a teenage girl in a gothic lolita outfit. When you intervene, she makes a comment about your own lack of fashion sense and introduces herself as Brygid.
Brygid sees something in you that she calls a "potential long term project", and when your character acts confused, she waves off your concerns and demands to be taken to Redolent Rose at the Weaver's Guild. When you get there, you have a conversation explaining that Brygid was contracted by one of Ul'dah's merchant families (Lola comes running in mid-cutscene, and it's made pretty clear Brygid doesn't think much of her assistant).
After the business is done, Brygid declares you a walking fashion disaster, and one that will take a long time to sort out. As such, she offers her services at a discounted price, so that she ensures that you don't embarrass yourself. Lola steps in to explain that for Brygid to harness her creative energies, she requires her clients to have a wardrobe of their own. Part of the service would include recording and storing items traded to Brygid, keeping a sort of log of all visible equipment you own and/or have acquired. The service also includes use of glamour prisms to ensure you're up to date on your fashion by storing glamour prisms for you or applying glamour effects on your equipped items at a cost.
The System
- Brygid can be summoned using the same bell you use to summon Jandelaine. You'll have the choices of summoning Jandelaine or Brygid when interacting with the bell.
- Unlike Jandelaine, Brygid will charge you 250 gil per time she is summoned. She'd call this a "consultation fee".
- You can trade equipment you want on your "glamour log" to Brygid. You may also store glamour prisms for each type of equipment by trading those to Brygid. Items stored are essentially lost forever, and will be set to their original color. Glamour prisms that are stored will be consumed as you apply glamour on your equipment.
- If you don't have a glamour prism on your inventory or storage, Brygid will still be able to apply a glamour, but charge you 10,000 gil per application.
- Dyes are applied during the glamour process; the dyes themselves must be in your inventory during the glamour process.
- The order would be: Pick item to be glamoured => get a prompt saying "Would you like to apply a dye to this glamour?" => finalize and glamour your chosen item.
- There would obviously be achievements for having Brygid log a certain number of items, with title rewards like "the Fashion-conscious" for trading 20 pieces of equipment to Brygid.
- In addition to all this, you may still keep items on your inventory to glamour on your own with the currently-existing system.
