Does anyone see retainers roaming Eorzea anymore?

I used to see at least 2 retainers a day walking in CCH or E Than, but I haven't seen one in a long long time. Is this something SE decided to stop doing, or do I just have really bad luck catching them?

Now that you mention it, no I haven't, not for a long time. I'm sure they're still about but probably fewer people are using retainers for 18hr as they've already maxed the experience levels.

OH, is that what those are? I have seen the one in CCH frequently, and maybe as recently as a month or so ago (which is not necessarily all that recent, I guess!). I also see one in CWH occasionally when I'm after botany nodes up near the Dreaming Dragon and the Ice Commanders.

I never knew what was going on with those wandering folks, so I'm glad to have seen this.

I see one almost constantly inside the shop area of the Wolves' Den pier, he's an Elezen lancer. It's always the same one, I'm thinking it may just be a scripted NPC in the blue retainer uniform instead of someone's actual retainer, since I have yet to see one that looks like any of my friends' retainers. I'll try to snap a screenshot if I see him again.

yeah, those are scripted retainer appearances. Actual player retainers do not appear in the world. It would be very immersive to actually find them though, then maybe you'd have a small clue what they were bringing back to you, lol.
I think in BDO if you send your workers somewhere, you can actually track them on your world map, and find them, and they're actually doing what you told them to do.

I see them everywhere lol, even in azyl, I mean I'm not supprissed really since my retainer soloed Crystal tower and stole the throne lol

Usually it's mostly a male hyur MRD (based on his great axe) who walks up the hill between the Gates of Judgement and Whitebrim Front in Coerthas Central Highlands that I've seen the most (I last saw him there a month or two ago), although I do recall seeing one near Little Solace in the East Shroud once too.

They're clearly not actual player retainers though and just npc standins meant to represent retainers in a general way though sadly (it would have been really cool to have actual player retainers seen out in the field, knowing that my maids are out there somewhere lazing around on a beach instead of doing the jobs they're paid for ).

There's a pink haired lalafell retainer I see sometimes in North Shroud just outside Fallgourd Float that walks up to one of the shrubby things and pulls out a scythe. Kind of neat. As others have said though they're just scripted events.

I've definitely seen a few of these! Puzzled the heck out of me the first time I encountered one, because she was "farming" the same nodes that I was -- but when I tried to target her to /wave, I couldn't! And then she walked off and disappeared. It was like seeing a ghost.
