    Gods and their homestates

    Hello everyone

A friend and I just had a conversaion about the citystates and the gods belonging to them - mainly because we wanted to figure out to which state Menphina belongs to.
However, Menphina was one of the few we couldnt pinpoint - the other ones being Nymeia, Byregot and Althyk. And even after having a (quick) look into the lorebook we couldnt find states they belong(ed) to. So the question is: Can anyone shed some light on this so we can complete the list we made?

    Gridania - Nophica
    Uldah - Nald'thal
    Limsa - Lymlaen
    Ishgard - Halone
    Ala Mhigo - Rhalgr
    Belahdia - Azeyma
    Nym - Oschon
    Sharlayan - Thaliak

Ps.: we are aware that the keepers of the moon worship Menphina, but since the seekers of the sun worship Azeyma and yet shes still the goddess of Belahdia that doesnt seem to be exclusive)

Thanks for any input on this matter

I once tried to make a similar list, following established patterns in the game. Worship of Azeyma and Nald'thal both thrived in Thanalan (a primarily fire-aspected region). Worship of Llymlaen and Oschon both thrived in La Noscea (a primarily wind-aspected region). How hard could it be to make a rough guess for the others, right?

This led me to assume that Amdapor must have worshipped Althyk, for a while (especially after Althyk's prayer stone turned near Amdapori ruins). But then Nophica's symbol started creeping up in Amdapori areas and that assumption started to crumble.

It still stands to reason that the prayer stones are roughly in line with where cities that worshipped those gods within recent geological memory once stood, though. Louisoix needed to place them in a location where modern-day prayer would "reawaken" the gods (or traces of faith-based aetherial skew) there.

The farther back in time you go, the less is known, and the more geology has changed, so I assume for the moment that Louisoix may have been basing the prayer stone locations on modern-day cities in conjunction with cities from the Fifth Astral Era (of which there was one for every god in the pantheon). Lore does so far align with that assumption.

One key difference would be the location of Rhalgr's prayer stone in Thanalan, with the displaced Ala Mhigans and their Gyr Abanian faith. It actually looks like the Mhachi peoples of the Yafaem Saltmoor may have worshipped Rhalgr (if the big statue of a dude with a purple meteor in his hand is anything to go by). But faith in Rhalgr would be most recent amongst the Ala Mhigans, anyway.

Who, then, perhaps worshipped Althyk in the Black Shroud? I have no idea. But there could theoretically be a Byregot city in Gyr Abania somewhere and a Menphina city in Coerthas somewhere, as well. Similarly, there should be a Nymeia city out in Dravania somewhere.

These regions of the continent are massive and we only explore small chunks of them. The lost cities could be anywhere, and there might a few per god, and perhaps in different places.

Wish I could be more help than defining the boundaries a bit.

Thank you very much! I was actually hoping for your input tbh, so I'm quite delighted you answered!

We had the same thoughts about Althyk (but had to replace him with Nophica too...) and I do remember this place in southern thanalan thats related to Byregot, so I figured he might has to be placed around there...
(I could also live with Nymeia and Menphina being state-less gods since love and fate seem "universal" and not something that a state would bind itself too... but who knows maybe Menphinas pink city of lovebirds is out there somewhere - sorry, little joke^^')

Why would you place Nymeia in Dravania, if I may ask?

Going by the simple, regional elemental associations of 1.0, I've been seeing the Hinterlands as a water-aspected region, though it could be an illusion created by an already Thaliak-worshipping society landing there and bringing their god with them. This assumption was lightly reinforced when Nymeia's stone was put in La Noscea seemingly at random, as just like Thaliak, Byregot and Rlahgr, those stones hypothetically from off-limits regions would show up in a nearby region, or with a people who worshipped them.

It could all be illusions, though. With Xelphatol being seemingly windy and O'Ghomoro being seemingly earthy, who knows.
It's probably a lot more complicated than they made it seem at first.

And keep in mind that from 2009 through 2017, the lore's path has been anything but smooth. There are a ton of alllmost patterns out there, as if they once gave homage to some standard that existed in their time, only to be broken when things changed. (Especially the placement of the elemental regions in Eorzea and the locations of the primals.)

I just figured Menphina was mostly cult worship by Keepers of the Moon and the people who run Eternal Bonding ceremonies.
