I take that stance because that *IS* how it works. The FFXIV engine is the best MMO engine that SE currently have, therefore any limitations cannot be overcome without a system rewrite. Such things take years & manpower that would, effectively, take the entire development team away from developing *any* more FFXIV content.

I'd love all the things that are currently limited by software but the fact is it's not like just writing a few new lines of code. Some of the requests are how the system *works*, the whole thing would need to be rewritten from the ground up to handle them.

Look at it this way. Asking for a picture to be put on a website so you can view it on your PC is one thing. Asking them to do it & make it so you can view it on your calculator is a different matter!

And again we know how it functions now. Unless you have access to the code yourself, you don't know they can't tweak certain things. It does no harm in asking or showing support for a feature so they can see this is something we would like them to devote time into attempting to make possible. If the community doesn't back the idea or they revisit an issue and find it's still not something in their skillset or something that can be accomplished within their time restrictions so be it.

I'd have to agree. I'm not a game developer but I am a software developer. One of the metrics we use to gauge value for an improvement is how much it's in demand. We do consider possible limitations of current code and effort that rewriting areas may take as well. But if the value is deemed to be high enough, then we may move forward with an improvement for our customers even if it's not entirely easy to implement. It all depends on the delicate balance of effort versus reward.
