How many people still dont grasp that Au ra are mammalian is nature. Their scales, and other predominant features are all based on human physiology.
Wait!? Who?
Also how long until Y'shtola and Runar have Miqittens?

Sadu's right hand woman, Shar (if I remember her name right). She mentions being pregnant by her now-dead lover after the Naadam, and still does so if you go speak to her in Dotharl Khaa.

This is nice world building but the time bubble we're often locked in hurts this. She'll finally have that baby in two more expansions, if I'm being pessimistic, but here's to hoping she gets an update way before that. If not she'll be like Bonnie from Family Guy, spending several years being pregnant, after which you'd even have to ask her to "either have the baby or not already."
Some key NPCs get dialogue updates as you advance in the story, but despite the relative ease of doing so that one's probably not high on the devs' list of priorities (if it even crosses their minds, lol). This is nice world building but the time bubble we're often locked in hurts this. Either way, Shar's pregnancy and the Himaa clan's blurb both confirm that despite their horns and scales Au Ra are placental mammals (something I pointed out a couple years ago in this very thread a couple pages back), so the notion they lay eggs is one born of ignorance (willful or otherwise).

Honestly..this never even needed a serious answer. All you have to see is if they had a belly button which we do.
That's not an indication as much as you might think. While a belly button is an indication of a live birth, there are people who dont have one naturally, having them created through artificial means.

The thing is, we know a Hyur had children with an Au'Ra princess in Sui no Hato's past. This would imply that they are mammalian regardless.
Hello, if you're reading this, then you should know this isn't part of the post.
If our women laid eggs, then I would imagine they'd give birth to more than two or three babies at once. Like, all the time!
I'm thinking in terms of an entire brood, as reptilians do. So far, I haven't seen any big families to support this, but i could be wrong.
I do, however, support the idea of the Auri not being fully draconic, as kujoestars mentioned a couple times. They're more human than lizard,
and like he said they're more likely to be in a transitional evolution thingy ... which would mean that the female Auri get impreganted the way mammals do.
Us men, on the other hand ... well ... yeah. Please don't ask XD

The Character Creation screen says the exact same thing actually, but at the same time it's stated to be debatable. With how insanely diverse dragons are, it's really hard to say if at some point we didn't have weird outliers (I can say for sure Tarasque the big turtle dragon thing is an outlier with how dragons generally look). There is not a single reference to Voidsent though and I highly doubt any of them can even reproduce with Spoken (succubi are the closest and they're literally possessed corpses). I doubt there's any relation to Sin Eaters either with how they work.Au ra, as well as viera and miqo'te, are far more human than they are whatever animal/type of creature they pull traits from. So I find it unlikely they really vary much in unseen ways from humans other than viera living longer and au ra hearing with their horns. Let alone in such major ways as how they reproduce.
This may be covered earlier in the thread, but the encyclopedia eorzea also mentioned evidence to suggest they're not dragon related. In that dragons do not have the high sexual dimorphism au ra demonstrate, and dragon horns are not used for spacial awareness/hearing the same way au ra horns are.
Honestly I think there might be more of a void/light connection than dragon but we really don't know and may not ever if they don't feel like elaborating down the road.
And if we want to mess around with concept art titles, while there are both sheets titled "demonic_race" and "dragon_race", the one that ended up closest to the final product was the female concept art labeled "dragon_race" so that's probably what the devs ultimately went with.a part of me is a little disappointed we didn't get the version that's literally a D&D Dragonborn-style anthro dragon that was done for one of the male concepts
My working theory is either they're super distantly related to dragons or they are descended some dragon-like reptile (which we also have a lot of if raptors and drakes are anything to go by, though I am confused whether or not the latter count as dragons). Considering legends of Shinryu at least consider him a dragon despite being more serpentine (much like Eastern dragons irl are more like serpents than western dragons; they're actually technically chimeras if you want to REALLY break it down), so it could be that Othard had such creatures living there for a while at least that eventually became the Au Ra.
Sadly though, we probably will never know for sure because it's not plot relevant.
*quietly kicks the crack headcanon we reproduce like seahorses and get mpregged by ladies with ovipositors under the table*If our women laid eggs, then I would imagine they'd give birth more than two or three babies at once. Like, all the time!

O-oh my o////o
Quick off-topic comment, but can I draw your boi? He's loverly and I could do with the practice!
