Can I play on the PC version if my account originated from the PS4 version??

I bought the game on PC and PS4 to play with my brother, I tried logging in with my account from the ps4 but it says service is unavailable or something along the lines then mentions if i was a free trial or not.

so basically there a seperate account connected to the pc and another connected to the ps4 version. Can i cross the accounts to the same "game"

Edit: Can i use the same activation key on two different accounts?

I am on the free play period that you get for purchasing the game.

You cannot use the same key on 2 different platforms.

Whichever PSN account was logged in when you signed into FFXIV with your SE account for the first time will be permanently tied to that SE account. You can then play with that SE account on PC and PS4, but on the PS4 you have to always be logged in with the same PSN you used the first time. If another PSN is signed in on the PS4 when you start FFXIV, it'll think you're starting a trial or that you're logging into another SE account.

    No, you cannot.

    1) One activation key is only for one account.
The game being installed on your PS4 or windows does not matter. What matters is whether you have a key registered to your FFXIV Mogstation account. If you have FFXIV installed on your PC, only the account that has a windows version of the game registered will be able to log in.

    2) You need to buy the game for the platform you want to play in.
If you have the PS4 version registered to your account but not the windows version, you won't be able to play on a windows pc. Same for vice-versa. If you have the windows version registered to your account but not the PS4 version, you won't be able to play on a PS4. If you want to play on both PS4 and windows, you will have to buy and register the keys for both the windows and PS4 version of the game to your account.

Trying to word this as easily to follow as possible, as account stuff can get complicated.

An activation key is essentially a one time use password that verifies you bought ______ version of the game for ______ system. Say, for instance, you bought ARR for PS4. That comes with an activation key for that specific version of the game that you can apply to one account. Once the key has been assigned to an account, it is used up and that account is flagged for the game(as well as the initial 30 days of playtime). If you want to play together with your brother, you need separate accounts. If you bought both a PS4 version and a PC version, just assign the 2 activation codes to different accounts(easiest way would be to use your existing PSN account for one, then make a brand new account with the PC for the other). Then you both make characters on the same server, and youll be teaming up to smash baddies in no time.

A lot of people ask this, so ill pre-answer here. Yes, its possible to access your account and play your character from different platforms if you want to. What you need to do is set up an account as normal, then to get a second platform you buy the game again on the new platform, and apply the activation code to your existing account(so youre buying the game twice to access it on both platforms, but still only having one subscription to give you playtime on both machines). So you could for instance use your PS4 from home, and play on your laptop when youre away. Certain facets of your character are stored on your machine, so you have to set up customized UI and hotbars separately, as well as gear sets(which then need to be updated on both machines as you upgrade). Tedious, but totally possible. Keep in mind, as this is still only a single account it cant be logged on from two locations at the same time, and thus cant be used as a way for people to play multiple characters at once.

To use the same account (and characters) on either platform, you need both a PS4 licence and a PC licence registered to the same account.

But to play with your brother, you'd each need separate accounts, since the same account cannot be logged into multiple characters simultaneously.

So you might need anywhere between 2 and 4 copies of the game, depending on what you want to do. If one of you will always play on the PS4 and the other will always play on PC, then one copy of each type and each of those registered to different accounts will work. But if you want to alternate between sometimes playing on PC and other times on PS4, and your brother does too, then you need a PS4 copy for yourself, a PC copy for yourself, a PS4 copy for your brother, and a PC copy for your brother, with both of your codes registered to one account and both of your brother's codes registered to another one.

And once you get to Heavensward or Stormblood, you'll need just as many copies of that.

As for how to register them:

PC copies are registered through the Mog Station. If you already have an account (either from the PS4 version, or created during a free trial) and want to add the PC version to it, then you want to log into your account on the Mog Station first, and then register the PC licence key there. (If creating a new account, you just skip the logging in first part. It can create an account and register the key to it in one step.)

PS4 copies are registered through the PSN, and are linked not only to your SE account, but your PSN account as well. This means that if you and your brother are both going to get PS4 copies, you need to use different PSN accounts or sub-accounts (which is a good idea anyway, for keeping your gamer profiles and trophies and so on separate). You register the game either by entering the code for it into the PSN Store or by purchasing the game from the PSN store. (In either case, this needs to be done from the PSN account/subaccount that you want to register it to.) Then the first time you run the game from that PSN account, it will ask you whether you already have an SE account or want to create one. Your PSN account (and the PS4 copy you just registered) will be permanently linked to the SE account you specify in answer to that question. You'll only be able to log into FFXIV from a PS4 when you're logged into the matching PSN account.
