What do you like to do when you start getting burned out?

So I've been doing some serious catching up on the MSQ after re-subbing a couple of weeks ago - I was only halfway through the 2.5 quetline, I'm now 2/3 of the way through Heavensward (that's about 110-120 MSQs!). The issue is I'm starting to get seriously burned out on the MSQ to the point where I'm logging on and back off within a matter of minutes because I can't bring myself to play.

So I wanted to ask what in-game activities you guys enjoy doing when you start to burn out on content? I've been trying to save all my rested EXP for levelling my BRD to 60 but I'm thinking I might dabble in some crafting. I'd like to know what you guys get up to, though!

I play and stream other games during my downtime then I go back to FFXIV with a fresher perspective.

I have real problems with monotonous or unrewarding-feeling content so when I'm feeling agitated I occasionally get on a crafting kick and try to overcome some self-imposed new challenge with that rather than working on killing stuff. Roleplay or helping friends (or indeed, helping strangers) is always good, especially since helping means you see their excited reactions and it makes you feel less dried up and jaded yourself. And PVP is always different, so it does a great job of stirring things up when the queue actually pops (the GARO improvement to queue times has definitely runs its course on my datacenter, sadly).

I join Zurvan Ex farm parties, i like to see those parties burn themself and disband because DPS aren't good enough to skip soar.

    In-game? Nothing.
I go play some other game instead.

MSQ burned me out on my alt big time. I hit heavensward and took a break of just lurking through PotD, taking screenshots, try some games in the Gold Saucer, join random parties in PF who need help with content I've cleared and can help with, it does lift one's spirit seeing seeing bunch of happy people! On the bright side Heavensward can be pushed in about 3-4 days if you are level 60 and skip all cutscenes and the rest can be pushed in a day - again provided you skip all cutscenes.

Yeah BotW is a masterpiece. I laugh at XIV's maps compared to the world map in BotW.

Oh and your weapons matter and so many ways to play. It's great.

I never understood all the praise for the world in BotW - it's a barren wasteland compared to other open-world games like Witcher 3 and Horizon: Zero Dawn. Oh, and the framerate is all over the place as soon as there's a bit of grass onscreen. Still, the ~30 or so hours I put into it were definitely enjoyable, I just don't think it's the 10/10 that the entire world seems to believe.

On-topic, I tend to alternate what I do ingame a lot - I might level a new job over a couple of weeks, then craft for a few weeks, then work on gearing my main a bit more... But in the end, I take breaks when it becomes too much. There's not enough variety to keep me interested and engaged for the full three months between each patch, and that's okay.

It's a bit different for me when you've played the original Zelda on NES and really see how from a design perspective they've transformed that into 3D form and massive to boot all geared around exploration. Love it! W3, Horizon, BotW are all great games. I'd call them far from barren and that includes BotW. It's going to be a good year.

    ---------------

As for XIV with content being one and done in less then a few days I always go back to just checking retainers and crafts like once a week.
