Quick updates from the ranks of the leveling tank in the daily DF grind - I think my first two experiences were not as indicative of the tank misery overall as I recall from before (2 years ago). My last half dozen or so DF groups were somewhere between polite and pleasant, and I keep getting player comms. Haven't had a bad healer yet, and the DPS have been a mixed bag, but tilting slightly to the better than average side of things.
So it isn't as miserable as I recall, and I think my total n00bness in the first couple DF groups after my long layoff had as much to do with the negativity I received as the players themselves.
Haven't done anything too hard yet, and it's all pretty easy clears with the requisite goofs and mistakes, but I am actually enjoying tanking right now, and DF groups aren't bothering me even a little. Maybe the playerbase is nicer than I remember, or I am on a nicer server? Not sure, but it's not that bad.
there is nothing you can do to fix this unfortunately. The problem is not the tank job selection but rather what the job represents, and that is responsibility, party awareness and the ability to learn a battle faster than any other role in the game. Then coupled with the fact that people will have personal preferences and bias' and you just narrowed the selection of people who are willing to take tanking up as a main. I myself am a WAR main but I also make sure to level the other tank jobs so I have a rounded feel for the role and can adjust if needed. I love to tank especially as WAR because seeing high hp and damage are my two favorite things in any game. However given the community ridicule towards tanks, especially in df, I can see why it's an unpopular role. Nobody likes to be ridiculed or called out but most of us tanks had to deal with it at some point.
So give Earth Stance to every DPS? Give Earth stance higher hate generation? D=.
But nah. No reason to try and force people to tank when they don't want to. They'd just end up making the run slower due to the false sense of responsibility that people pin to a tank. I'd rather have two DPS's just run in and let me keep them alive as a healer going through leveling dungeons, than a new tank that doesn't know what their doing and feels their being forced into a role they don't want to play. ;o

To me this makes little to no sense, as I would equate your comment to;So give Earth Stance to every DPS? Give Earth stance higher hate generation? D=.

"Id rather 2 DPS 1 Healer, instead of 2.5 DPS and 1 healer"
If you were willing to heal 2 DPS, why not a 3rd DPS, with less dmg, and more survival?

SE did a great job in FF14 making tank appealing. You can tank and DPS, best of both world. Personnally I've had a lot of fun leveling WAR and DRK, never had any problem.
The real problem lies without the cesspool of players that you meet once you get to endgame, they are used to geared tanks, so anything less is unacceptable, also the me myself and I culture is pretty crazy.
Since I got to 60, I lost all my drive to play, I don't want to be part of a community this rotten. Had I leveled DPS, it might have been different but that's not the case.
On a side note, I haven't wiped in a dungeon yet since level 50 on both WAR and DRK, nor did I let anyone die, so it's not an issue about sucking at tanking.
I only enjoy tanking and healing.Started out as war main, cleared all coil mod then got fed up being OT doing dirt work and switch to astro in and will likely stay so for a while.Looking forward to SB and SE making pld great again.![]()
TL;DR You can't get people to tank if they don't find tanking inherently interesting.
My life while tanking is an existential hell from which there is no escape.
Tanking is not difficult. You can be good at any role if u put a lot of effort to learn your class in depth. As for me being an excellent DD is the hardest.Summoner is so much micromanagement imo, plus I hate the pet coz it's so annoying.Along BLM the least favorite jobs..I can only tank and heal, never liked being 100% DD and would be a scrub at it.xD
Sure, being a good DD is just as hard as being a good tank or good healer. Difference being that it is much more obvious when a tank or healer is bad, and while a DD screwing up will usually just make the fight take a bit longer, a tank or healer screwing up is likely to lead to a wipe. Hence more pressure on tanks and healers, and thus fewer people willing to play them.Tanking is not difficult.
