MRD Tanking Gear

Well I hit 47, so I started looking @ the MRD tanking gear @ lvl50.

Everyone knows that the cobalt set is the tanking set that you get from the market (or craft). However, the sentinal is considered the highest tanking set atm.

I looked at both of sets and compare :

Cobalt : + 21HP, +2Vit
Sentinal : +16Def, +5Parry, +3Emnity

My question is, why all the hype about the sentinal set when its barly a side upgrade. Why not just get the Cobalt set and thats it?

Sentinal is also so expensive on the market.

Also regarding the accesories, I got 3 X +7 vit rings. Are these the ones used for tanking or is there a better choise?

Also what kind of materia should I be looking at?

The Sentinel set is worthless and not worth the effort to get. Dual melded Cobalt armor is superior.

For Jewelry, go with 2x Mythril wristlet + Str or Vit ring

or

3x Str ring

On second thought, what about the Sentinal boots? I see its the only piece having emnity. Also I dont understand why I should use STR rings, could you please explain that to me?

The reason why the sentinel set is useless is because it takes so much more effort to obtain than merely buying cobalt armor or making it yourself. The stats are not that much better.

I'd argue that it is easier to get a double melded piece of cobalt gear than it is to get a single piece of the sentinel set.

STR boosts your damage. An increase of 1 STR is slightly better than an increase of 1 ATK.

Stick on both +STR traits, 3 Garnet rings, a Sipahi Turban, and a Cobalt Haubergeon, and you'll see your dmg go up a decent amount.

Currently, the +enmity stat is next to worthless. Just do more damage, and you'll get more hate. It might be more useful after next patch, but who knows.

How does Evasion work for MRD tanking? I have a choice either to buy legs with +str/vit or +eva/vit.

I like Eva alot. With eva/parry set you can tank just as well as with def gear. The only problem of eva is that the effectiveness is directly proportional to the lv difference between you and the monster so it's more recomended for 5- level difference fight.

I do prefer eva over def though. If you can have some bloodflight IV going evasion gear might work pretty well, with the benefit most evasion gear are open to all DoW while cuirass set is GLA MRD only.

Eh, I dunno about evasion. It didn't seem like it did that much, especially on Ifrit. I didn't get around to stacking evade and then parsing the results, so if someone else wants to do that, go ahead.

For something like Ifrit, however, I mean, if you put on enough evade to evade like, 2 to 3 more attacks, that seems hardly worth it.

Yeah I agree with fights like Ifrit it might be better to go regular Def gear. However do you think Eva will work while AoE tanking mobs?

Also Lienn, I wil prolly be tanking lvl50+ mobs most of the time (in parties). So yeah evasion is nice against mobs lower than you, but dunno about 52-53 mobs.

Even on stronghold mobs, I doubt the benefit of more evasion would be worth the sacrifices in other areas.
