this is the video I recorded. Nothing to show off really but, this was filmed so that later day, I can see it from my screen and remember that we had a very good time in eorzea! I wanna share with you so that you guys also make memorable time with your own LS members. ^^

I do think, for that reason, gear should also definitely enter into the equation.

I simply mean that I don't think we should be able to see a well-geared group of noobs steamroll through a boss, especially with the powerleveling problem we have.

Skill and strategy should carry a heavy weight.

But I also don't think that even the best skilled group should be able to go in with no-stat gear and take down a boss, or else we run into what just happened here in this post.

I do somewhat like the idea of gear checks, I just don't want to see it become as crazy as WoW's dungeon finder, that won't let you enter heroics unless your gear score is high enough.

I think there are better ways to keep people from skipping content, like not letting them progress unless they do a chain of dungeons in order, etc.

The WoW gear score was ridiculous. This is when decision making should be left to the player. The gear check should act as a barrier that guarantees you will not be able to proceed. What they should have done prior to the Ifrit fight; was introduce gear with fire resistance. This would ensure that you go through previous content to obtain the gear. It also correlates with players skills. You're only getting the gear in order to survive the onslaught. You still have to be able to actually kill him.

We totally showed Ifrit the Power of Christmas! Also, on a side note, I didn't wear any accessories, only hands and legs =)
That's why I think that the attributes are really not relative for the fight (tanking it with 700 Defense was worse than this time with 355. Half the defense, damnit!)

Anyway, here's the live cast of me tanking Ifrit. I think my song is better =D
