Why make difficult content when most of the people paying you money will never touch it?
Even if most people doesn't touch the harder content, it still gives most people the feeling that there's more to the game. I never raided during vanila WoW for example, this didn't mean that I couldn't think that seeing people running around in their purples were kinda cool. It gave me something to aim towards, that maybe someday I would have the same stuff as well.
FFXIVs content doesn't at all give that feeling tho, since everything, except a few choice encounters, are VERY easy. And there's really nothing to make one aspire to do that content either, not even just hoping of doing it, since the rewards from them are really lackluster. Why even bother to try and become better, so that I might be able to tackle savage, when if I just wait a few weeks I'll be able to get better rewards with no effort at all?
SE should really reconsider their patches, and the way they structure their content. The only relevant content is only ever the latest patch ones, and all else is just there to farm tomes in, or in a few cases repeatedly do for the relic. Maybe if they tried to make content last for longer than one patch, they wouldn't have to keep coming up with different weird reasons to go back to the other stuff?
On topic: Yes, I was highly dissapointed in Proto. I didn't really have much expectations about him, but I at the very least expected him to be his own thing, and not just a trashmob in an already pretty stale 24-man dungeon.
People that touch it is not the same as people that finish it
All we know about Gordias and Midas is a not accurate amount of full clears. We don't know how many have partial clears or how many have tried it at all.
