I think it's how the game industry is now because everyone is just prepared to accept it's how the game industry is now. It doesn't have to be like this.

I think that ship has sailed honestly. There are just way more people willing to buy it (same with the cash shop, I usually don't buy anything) instead of putting their foot down unless the game is 100% complete garbage.

Even old fashioned companies like Nintendo are doing it now. (Zelda DLC)

Mobile is making wads of cash doing this same thing albiet more on the pay to win side of things.
