Stop Giving the "Need" Command for Drop Gear in Dungeons to Higher Geared Players!

I got a super lecture from a group the other day about rolling need because it was wrong of me to do so.

My argument was, just because I am not using it in the same way as you are, does not mean I am not using it. If you need it as a stand in piece let me know and I will pass but if you don't say anything you bet I am rolling need, because I still need it too.

Way I see it is like this. You run a dungeon with me and want a piece of gear that will be an upgrade for you speak up otherwise it is fair game. I mean no disrespect but asking the dev team to essentially force people to NOT roll when this game is designed for you to use gear for things other than for fighting, crafting and gathering, is basically insanity. As many have said desynth, GC turn in for seals and retainers. It is basically financial suicide to screw over your player base when three of four things old gear is used for ties to the game's economy. The other even more so i.e. glamour. Don't misunderstand me here. I've had gear pulled out from under me before. It happens, will happen and will continue to happen. Not the only suit of mail that generates in the game, catch my drift?

To the people saying: "you shouldn't be rolling need if it's not an upgrade for you". Who are you to decide what is an upgrade for someone? A person trying to get it for glamour is trying to UPGRADE their look. A person getting it for desynth is trying to UPGRADE their desynth skill and get crafting supplies. A person getting it for trade in for GC seals is probably trying to UPGRADE their relic or squadron. In any case it is being used to help that player in some way and they deserve that help just as equally as anyone else playing the game.

Shit, if anything rolling for glamour represents a HIGHER level of Need than gearing up. When I roll for off-class jewelry, for instance, that stuff gets turned in for seals or converted to materia the moment a higher ilevel piece falls into my inventory. When I roll a good glamour piece though, that gear is going in my retainer and staying there for potentially YEARS. (Hello, i70 Darklight pieces)

Not that I'd advocate that people not be allowed to roll Need for gear upgrades. Because that'd be pretty petty, wouldn't it?

Sorry, 'needing' on an item which is inferior to yours shouldn't be enabled, you don't NEED it you're by definition being GREEDy and games should do anything they can to mitigate player selfishness.

I never said if you run on a class the loot should be your guaranteed, I said if you really want it, play that class (because it logically has the best odds of getting it, which I implied rather than explicitly stated). Yes, DPS do have a higher chance of running into the issue of multiple people of same class both being able to Need on gear and get screwed more often that way, but that's a chance everyone takes.

I will reiterate, again, since you didn't seem to understand what I said: item level is not everything. Almost every piece of gear in this game has multiple uses and purposes. Each use is subjectively rated by each individual to fit thier own preferences and priorities. Nobody has an inherent superior need for the gear except the person actually playing that class at that moment the gear drops. You clearly are defining inferior based on ilvl and stats, but you fail to account for things like aesthetics, desynthability, and conversion values.

Ugh, I finished that grind a few months ago after coming back from a break. I don't even wanna think about the extra coke needed to upgrade it after its leveled.

No, not at all.

People might need it for glamour, GC seals, or desythesis. None of those actions are any less valid or "necessary" than you wearing it. In fact, it could be argued that you using it for stats is LESS valid than them using it for the previously stated because you will be replacing it if you got if for stats very soon.

That and I greed everything until I see someone need on something they don't need. Then all bets are off.

Personally I need/greed then desynth all drops I get from dungeons for the gill. If not that, then I trade for GC seals like most people have stated. If you want something, let people know. I'll gladly drop any piece you want if you ask nicely.
