    Emotes and sign language

I mentioned to a friend that I wished there were some emotes for things like "sorry" or "thank you" and I was surprised when they wondered how those could be made into an emote. To me it seemed obvious to use sign language as inspiration.
But that got me thinking. Which variation of "thank you" (for example) should be used? There are plenty of different languages to choose from. Asl is the one I most familiar with, and I know thank you in asl is similar to the jsl and bsl sign, but maybe there's a different sign that would work better for a distinct emote animation?
What are your thoughts on this? What signs would you like to see as an emote? What already existing emotes could be altered to work?

I learned quite a bit about signing when I was younger, but I've forgotten most of it. In FFXIV though, I find that "/bow" gets the point across for a lot of situations. Very nice and polite too. "Grovel" is a good one for apologies (at least for my character--not sure what it looks like on all the different races).
