Defense of what? This stuff is endgame, and it doesn't "not matter" to people at endgame just because there will hopefully be much better stuff down the road.

People at endgame, who enjoy endgame, for the most part want more to do at endgame than just 2 things. It isn't "defending" anything, it is just asking for a reasonable commitment for the money we pay for continued development of content for us to play.

When I play an MMO I pay a subscription for the continued development of endgame content (especially in the last 5 years as the rest doesn't last past the free month). I just want more activities than 2 things... I don't think that is too much to ask for at all. All it takes is a shift in their design philosophy or for them to develop more content.

At any one time for endgame (meaning the content that people do after they reach the level cap, and assuming they did all content up to that point) to consist of less than 5 separate encounters is insufficient. I have never played an MMO long term that had such few encounters.

I have progressed through content to the point where there were only a few fights relevant to me, but someone reaching 50 right now does not need to do darkhold/world NM's/faction NM's at all (except for "fun", in which case I guess we have 5,892 endgame activities if you count every high level mob in Mor Dhona as "endgame").

That's the gripe most people at endgame have right now, and the purpose of this thread. It doesn't matter how "challenging" they make the moogle fight, if that is all we have to do for the next 3 months it is going to get very repetitive. Something which could easily be solved by giving us more to do (either a reason to do the other stuff, or preferably some new content like a few high level NM's)

i hope you know i was agreeing with you and that i think its getting petty of some of the "white knights" of this game come down to having to argue what endgame really is as part of the argument.

Being a player of FFXI it feels like we were spoiled with how much we had to do. This game has been a joke, and i still cant get it through my head how people WANT to pay for this game, or constantly give it pity for spending the last year trying to fix what was one of the worst things to come out of SE. Its an utter joke and we as customers should not have to pay a red cent until its up to their complete standards (aka: 2.0) ....its a giant revison with huge sweeping changes for a reason. If they were so confident with what we will have in 1.20 then 2.0 would never have been mentioned and everyone would have to accept it as what they consider ready to be re-released.....but its clearly not.

SE has some balls expecting people to pay for this 1.0 garbage.

I don't think I'd go that far. Though this is my biggest gripe it is an easy fix I think, all they need to do is:
    1. Wipe achievements, and have the new achievements for all of the old major NM/Dungeons significant (granting rewards of some kind) to encourage people to redo them with the new combat system.
    2. Eliminate personal loot lists on Primal fights.
    3. Introduce a few high level NM's dropping relevant gear.

Endgame would instantly be 100% better than it is currently.

There is still time for them to do this before we start paying, or at least right after (holiday 1.20a patch?).

your dreaming if you think it will happen lol. There is plenty they know they wish they could do, but can't due to the servers holding them back. They have some really grand and interesting ideas coming, but of course not until 2.0 can they happen. We will see limited content and certain changes plain old wont happen, which is why im personally not happy with them wanting people to pay pre-2.0. Its just asking for people to quit on them and for news to pick it up and give it a worse rep for charging when its clearly still broken.

Now explain to me what the hell the servers have to do with any of that.

it doesn't have anything to do with that, but its a dream if you think they WILL do it. The server thing was a separate second thought about content in general.

If you don't want to pay for it, simply don't it's that simple -- They aren't forcing you to pay like you're making it out to be. If you could happily play this game while it's free then you should be able to pay to play for it, otherwise, you're free to not pay for it if it's that upsetting to you they'll begin charging.

Its the fact that this will only worsen the games rep. News sites will pick it up again when they charge (possibly semi-reviewing the changes) like they did when the charging for the game came up, but will ultimately bring up what many people are saying "why are they charging for a game now?".

The population of the game will drop off pretty decently, its inevitable. With that comes the point of loosing plenty of customers who decide its not worth paying for a year before its really ready, potentially loosing them to 1) other MMOs (plenty of new big ones otw by then) and 2) plain old forgetting about it or loosing interest. They might make some money doing this, but it will be a drop in the bucket compared to what they can do if they keep everyone whos playing now around until 2.0, likely keeping them playing for years to come because they fixed it like they promised.

I just dont see it being a smart idea (and im far from being along on this idea) even charging a discounted amount until 2.0
