I used to use the security token that I bought for use with FF XI, but I switched over to the phone app on Android when that came out and it's worked perfectly fnie for me (for like 3 years now?)

One phone I had broke and I couldn't use the code any more, but I'd made a note of the emergency removal password like they said so it was easy to remove it and then set it up again on my new phone.

As long as you have the removal password safe somewhere, it doesn't matter what happens to your phone, you'll be able to remove the token from your account without involvement from SE.

I use the phone app, however, I've never been logged out of the forums on my phone or my pc once logged in. You would have to deliberately delete your cookies or whatever to be logged out indirectly.

Having a security token or app tied to your account actually removes the ip changed lockout feature.

How is that possible? I have been using the token for 2 years and have not run out of battery yet on my first one.

That's crazy, I still have the token I got when they first released it for FFXI!

In XI, I had a friend that got hacked into. They stole all his items and gil and then transfered him to another server to use as a fishing bot. It took a month before everything was straightened out and he could play again.

Bottom line, it may be a pain having to have the token all the time but it's 100% worth the security.

I don't understand why people are bad mouthing the phone app. I've been using it.
Some of the complaints about it I see here are for those without security tokens at all, not about the phone app!

I used the physical authenticator until I got tired of being unable to log into the forums/Mog Station anytime I wasn't at home, so I called SE and got switched over to the digital one.

This was about a year ago and I haven't had any complaints. I did make an effort to e-mail the digital serial number to myself to ensure I'm covered if something were to happen to my phone.

I was thinking on use the phone app. But I only read bad things. For example, you account can be blocked if you change your IP. I have dynamic IP, so my security token won't work every time I change IP (like rebooting router for example).

I think you have that backwards. If you *don't* have the security token (or software token), then the game may consider a changing IP address as suspicious, so might block your account until you change your password. But if you do have one, it accepts that as validation that you are who you say you are, so it won't care about a changing IP.

I'm not sure you can have more than one device can you? It's been so long I don't remember the setup process. Phone app for android has been working for me for at least a year if not more.

Regardless if you use the phone app or the security token, please remember to save that emergency removal password. I cannot stressed enough how important that is. Heck, I'll even go as far and say to copy down a physical copy and have a soft copy saved in your computer. And to be on the safe side, copy-paste the emergency removal password directly from the SE webpage. For some reason the last time I had to use it the webpage didn't accept the password I typed manually for some reason. Luckily for me I remembered I had an encrypted soft copy that I pulled directly from the webpage a long time ago.
