Security Pin

I'm just curious what other people do. I assume most people use the 6 digit security pin these days to get logged in to the game.

What I'm interested in is; do people have multiple devices for the pin generating or just 1? It really annoys me that you have to use the pin for logging on to the forums for example. I only have 1 pin device and I leave it at home because I'm terrified of losing it and not being able to log in to the game. So when I'm out and about I can't log in to the forums on my phone etc.

What does everyone else do about this?

I use one device too, I have it next to my PS4 at all times. On some browsers you can set it so it keeps you logged into the forums so you won't have to use your key. Occasionally it may log you out. This is really helpful for me as often I go to my boyfriends where I don't have FF, but i like to forum while he's been called to work.

I was thinking on use the phone app. But I only read bad things. For example, you account can be blocked if you change your IP. I have dynamic IP, so my security token won't work every time I change IP (like rebooting router for example). I appreciate the extra security, but this should work in another way. People can lost their code or have problems with ISP and that. The system still not think in that. I am not using it, despite I want, because I don't want to get my account block for one of this causes.

I've heard nothing but bad things about the phone app as well. My phone browser tends to log me out all the time, guess I'll just have to be a reader and not a poster most of the time

I've been using the phone app for nearly 3 years with NO PROBLEM AT ALL. I dont know what the complains are.

I bought the CE of ARR so mine came with the authenticator and its been on my keys ever since. However the other day it did fall off for the first time so i'm a bit more paranoid about it falling off now

I've been using the app ever since they launched it and I've transferred it to new phones whenever I upgrade and I've never had a problem with it. I wasn't even aware the app was supposed to have problems that didn't derive from user error (such as breaking the sync because you were screwing with your phone's clock).

I have the token that came with the collector's edition of A Realm Reborn. It asks for the pin every time I log in game, forums, Lodestone, Mogstation and Square Enix site from a page linked to FFXIV (like tickets and contacting customer rep). You can also replace the battery in the tokens and it'll still continue to function. If you lose the token, though, you'll need to contact someone to have it removed from the account. Once it's removed, you cannot use it again (say you found it later). I just leave it on a hook on the wall when I don't need it since I play FFXIV from a desktop and have no reason to port it around.

How is that possible? I still have the same security token from 1.0 in early 2010 and we entered in 2017 now and still working... how come you ran out of batteries twice is beyond me lol

Answering the OP, I use my physical security token since beginning. Having security token brings a lot advantages. Aside of more security to your account make you being able to login from anywhere in any pc or plataform (If you don't have you need to grant access by confirm in your mail if not mistaken which is a pain in the ass). In the forum you just need to login once and keep logged in check up but time to time reset and when that happen you bring your token and redo again and then can keep at home.
