Gathering Almond Seeds

I am out to gather almond seeds, but so far I have only gathered 4 seeds after gathering from 75+ trees. I was going to use these seeds to start crossbreeding things. Can I instead plant the seeds to get more almond seeds to stock pile? If so which soil should I use, and should I plant them in a certain pattern t avoid chance of accidental crossbreed? I have the bed with 8 plots.

To speed up collection of seeds, try the following:

Open the tree node, if the seed is there; collect it, If not; close the node without gathering and move on to another node. Repeat this process. You should be able to collect seeds at a much faster rate since you don't have to clear out the node. The first node will reset after opening and closing the 3rd node in the set giving you another chance to proc the seed.

What I do is have a botanist retainer retrieve the seeds I need for crossing. They only bring back one per venture, but it gets pretty tiring running in circles hoping for a single seed to pop up.
