Changing the order characters are displayed on the character selection screen?

I have quite a few alts and I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to rearrange the way the characters are listed on the character selection screen.

Back in 1.0 the slots were reserved for whatever character you decided to put there. For example:

1. Character 1
2. Character 2
3. Character 3
4. Character 4
5. Character 5

If you, say, deleted Character 3 the new list would look like this:

1. Character 1
2. Character 2
3. Empty Slot
4. Character 4
5. Character 5

Now if you filled that slot with a newly created character the new list, in 1.0, would look like this:

1. Character 1
2. Character 2
3. New Character 3
4. Character 4
5. Character 5

Since 2.0, I'd wager the character selection screen list order automatically fills and collapses the slots and the only thing controlling the order is the date in which the character was created.

So in 2.0 the new list order, with Character 3 deleted then added would look like this:

1. Character 1
2. Character 2
3. Character 4
4. Character 5
5. New Character 3

So my issue is, even though during 1.0 I had self assigned each race to a slot. So my Character list looked like this:

1. Hyur
2. Elezen
3. Lalafell
4. Mi'qote
5. Roegadyn

Before Fantasia I had deleted and recreated a few of my characters during 1.0, some being more leveled than others. Unfortunately, ever since the migration to 2.0 my character selection order is all screwy and I'd like to fix it back to the way I had it during 1.0.

As of now my character list looks like:

1. Hyur
2. Roegadyn
3. Elezen
4. Mi'qote
5. Lalafell
6. Au'ra

I would like my character list to look like:

1. Hyur
2. Elezen
3. Lalafell
4. Mi'qote
5. Roegadyn
6. Au'ra

I'm basing this off of the official list order when you create a character in 2.0:




I was thinking of using Fantasias to fix my list, but, different characters are at different points in the story and have other aspects of their character that are permanently assigned [i.e. certain holiday event items, starting city, etc.]. I thought that I might be able to transfer characters to a different server, as the list for each server is separated, then transferring them back to their home server but I'm not guaranteed that will fix the order and I'd rather not waste that kind of money for such a trivial thing. Also, all of my characters are on Balmung and I'd rather not transfer off and not be able to transfer back and leave my Free Company and housing behind.

I know it's kind of a niche situation, but does anyone know if transferring a character to a server and then back changes the list order by any chance?

if they ever throw that into the game, i hope they also throw in a QOL feature that allows us to sort linkshells and stuff. it's so annoying when you leave an LS (in the middle of your list) and it doesn't even move the rest of the list upward like the character selector

Right? Thanks for the upvote. It's only a small quality of life thing. Kind of embarrassed to even post it in the first place but....

Oh, I remember having that issue as well. We could really just use an order customization tool in general. We can organize our inventories, auto sort them according to particular criteria, why not organize lists like the journal, duty lists, character lists, linkshell lists etc.

I actually would like the ability to rearrange my character on the login screen. My understanding is that the arrangement of the characters is according to the date when they were created, but I don't see why we can't have the arrangement of characters be controlled from our end even if it is just for our own personal reasons...

A related thing I've noticed, since my characters are all on different servers, is that the order the servers appear in the list is completely random and changes every time you load the game. I assume it's to do with connecting to the servers and which one responds first, but I don't know why it isn't just a fixed list.
