lol, nah I'm sorry I can't agree with you on this one. The player count is smaller but the ratio is the same from what I can tell. I think there are just as many (or potentially just as many) here in XIV as there are in WoW.

The greater the audience, the greater number of douchebags and that's all that WoW has over other MMOs in most cases is simply a greater audience. So I think for many people, it's easy to perceive the games playerbase as being immature, but really I just think it's the numbers.

What I'm saying is, it's not a WoW thing, it's simply today's generation of gamers and they infect ALL games almost equally. If what you're saying is true and we have more mature players ect. it's only because the game isn't tolerable for most of the gamers we're talking about and so they've left early to return to other online games.

Again, look at the forums, it's the same behavior you see on WoWs forums, on Aions forums....it's all the same man.

And should XIV evolve into a magical amazing experience and lots of people join the game in the future, you'll see what I mean. Especially if there's a global chat.

So you cut out an option (and mind you, this is dependent on the idea that a chat channel could be toggled off) because of what people -might- do?

It doesn't make sense to me.

Right now, communication in this game is hurting. Badly. People don't talk. Communication needs to be encouraged. Community needs to be encouraged. This is a fast, simple way to do it.

You don't like global chat? Fine. Toggle it off. It costs you nothing. So why deny this feature to others?

/global channel would be a welcome addition to FFXIV.

It would be used for many reasons such as trading, RMT spam, LS recruitment/ flaming, leve-link parties, SP grind parties, noobie questions, ranting, and reducing boredom while grinding DoH skills.

FF games tend to attract a more mature or good-natured crowd than other franchises, but boundaries would absolutely need to exist for the channel to have a positive impact. Most importantly:

-two line (whatever amount of text it takes to fill two lines of the default chat window) limit for each entry

-at least 20 second delay before becoming eligible to send another /global entry

    there
    is
    nothing more
    annoying
    than
    people flooding
    chat
    channels
    talking
    like this.

I think this would be a genius idea. I have played other MMOs where it's been used for foolish and useless chat or rants/trolling so I usually filter it off. But I do also believe that FFXI and FFXIV have a more mature player base, and that it would liven up the server. I mean... it's rather depressing walking into Ul'dah, seeing hundred of players, and no one responding to anything.. I can try to look for a group for hours and nothing and no one shouting anything. Not to talk, not to find a group... nothing... I think this would encourage people a lot and also it'd have the players from all over, so there'd have to be something going on.

I think SE should add Game Suggestions to Feedback instead of just Site, all the suggestions in the General Discussion get drowned out by normal threads.

If people are finding it quiet then they should perhaps consider joining more linkshells. Linkshells are, afterall, player created private chatrooms. They don't serve any other purpose at this time.

If they were to introduce a global channel, I would like to see the time limit between /global shouts to be 2-3 minutes so that it's not viable for conversation and it is used solely for asking questions (only need to be asked once and can be replied to with a /tell) and forming groups (if the channel isn't spammed then it should be easy to see).

I wouldnt be completly opposed to the idea, but if I was a developer of a mmo, I would not have one, whenever this sort of thing is implemented it will always be a spam fest, even with the ability of turning it off it becomes obsolete because the only things people will use it for is spam, and unless you're in the spam crowd you wont get anything useful out of it

I would believe that the reason the audience in FFXI and FFXIV seem on general to be more "mature" is because of its "adult swim"(in the literal sense, not the animation block) design. There are "limits" in place that would deter a seemingly more "immature" crowd like no world PvP, no rabid jumping or other crazy physics defying stuff, the gameplay is very much team-based, which means less room for douchery, being an entry in a series that is usually shrugged off by the western gamer public, and at least for FFXIV, a higher barrier to entry due to high PC requirements.

Take away these things, and I'm pretty sure that you'll have plenty of "WoW-heads" heading to the game and bringing it down to every other game's level.

These are just my thoughts on the perceived maturity of these games' communities, and is hardly indicative of anything with factual basis. Personally I don't think it has anything to do with more maturity as much as it has to do with the game attracts a certain demographic with certain personality characteristics that may not be in line with the audience of other MMOs.
