    Fisher Exploit, Tool, Hack, Cheat?

So ich watched something interesting in Azys La while fishing for opabinia.

Opabinia requires you to catch 3 proto hropken, which are really really rare and it often takes about 30-40 rl minutes of consecutive fishing to get those.

Hropken itself requires fish eyes and either bites on fiend worm or HQ silver fish.

While trying for countless windows, I happened to watch an other player, that fished there every thunder window. He used Fish eye, hooked 1 time, put the rod away, cordial, fish eye, 1 hook, put rod away. He basically wasnt fishing and just wasted countless cordials on activating fish eyes to immediatly cancel it.

Sometimes he actually fished and didnt put the rod away. Whenever that happened, he got a 100% hropken bite.

So...are fish 100% scripted and are there some hacks, tools, whatever that let you know, which fish would bite during that buff?

Different fish activate different Fish Eye timers. It seems to be random which fish eye timer will activate if there are multiple to choose from (as is the case with Functional Proto-hropkens and Barreleye's fish eyes at the Flagship), but it's not random which timer corresponds with which fish. This guy was probably just repeatedly activating Fish Eyes until he got the timer he knew was for Hropkens. The same thing can be done for Fossiltongues vs Lavalords vs Lord of lords at Halo and Bishopfish vs Priestfish at Clearpool.

Now this is just the way I have been assuming it works as I've caught all these fish, and my experience as well as the comments on ffxivangler support this.

Fish Eyes have different durations indeed, sometimes it's 3 or 5 minutes in the same fishing hole. Should have just asked him what's correct duration for proto hropken and do like he did. It's no more 'cheating' than letting all fish with incorrect tug times go in a limited time window for more attempts to catch what you need.

I caught 80 hropken so far and I'm sure that the duration doesnt matter. And even under the "right" duration theres no guarantee that you get a hropken

    still seems fishy for me

All I can say is that there *is* software out there that makes fishing less 'RNG dependant' in the way you've seen. It's similar to how certain people manage to arrive at a node after I've started my macro, do their full collectables rotation, collect & then leave before my macro has even finished. Sad but true.

While there's definitely a lot of botting and scripting going on in gathering, in this case, macros slow down gathering. I've been doing scrips for long enough that it takes me hardly any time at all to slap the buttons and move on.

Macros do indeed slow down things but not to the extent that can be seen on Leviathan when a certain "person" is farming Ephemeral Nodes. I've seen the person appear at a node at exactly 04:00 (pop time) seemingly out of thin air then open, do the rotation, fly to two other nodes (opening & closing) & return to the first node before my simple collectable rotation is completed. It's definitely not just the macro delay. Reporting does nothing. They also manage to be at every 'important' node as it pops 24/7. Log on at 4am because you can't sleep - they're there. Log on at 2pm, 8pm, 1am still farming. >_<

Sounds very fishy to me indeed.
On the other hand, macro's for gathering :O rotations are so simple there is no point whatsoever to it.
The only time they might be usefull is if i'm to tired/sleepy to press the correct buttons. But perhaps that is a good sign that its time to go to bed though.

Personally i've never seen dodgy gatherers out there. The closest thing i've seen is people teleporting in and out at an aetherite to quickly to actually be legitimate teleports.

I have caught both fossiltongues and lava lords under different fish eye timers. So I rather doubt that the timers are exclusive to particular fish.

We've had a bot on Exodus doing Ephemeral Nodes for well over a year. Just did a search and sure enough, 00:00-04:00 game time means he's a botanist in CWH.
