Weird Console lock-on Trigger

im new, so i apologies if this is out of place or if this is not the right location to post these kinds of questions.

it seems as though there is this odd lock that involves the holding down R1 then tapping R2 (PS4 perspective).

this causes my character to lock onto the most random of objects and NPC's in view and unlocks from the enemy of which i am originally targeting.

basically, its an annoying function, and i am wondering if there are any settings that will disable this feature without affecting anything else in the process?

im still new to the game, so it would take up a lot of my time to find the correct setting without messing anything up in the process.
