    I think (and I have no idea how feasable this is) that they should change the way RNG works on these loot drops, making it so that there is a higher chance for loot to drop based on the current party composition, and a lower chance (obviously it still needs to be able to drop) for gear to drop that is not equippable by anyone in the party. It could go even further and check current ilvl, but this is unnecessary.

    Or... I guess tokens..... (but I hate tokens, so much inventory bloat)

    Because adding another new gear category would dilute the loot pool too much.
    Right now there are 7 sets combat of gear:

    - Tank (PLD/WAR/DRK)
    - Healer (WHM/SCH/AST)
    - Magic DPS (SMN/BLM)
    - Ranged DPS (BRD/MCH)
    - Dragoon
    - Monk
    - Ninja

    That's 6 pieces (head, body, hands, waist, legs, feet) times seven sets is 42 different armor loot items. At 2 loot items per chest, that's already a fairly small chance of getting an item you can use. Increasing that number of sets would only decrease the chance even more - if you think you currently have to grind a lot to get your preferred drop, think again.

    Even if loot is restricted to a choice from 3 pieces per chest (as in the current 24 man raids, that's still 21 different items of which 2 get picked per chest =)

    So for eminently practical reasons, I can understand the upcoming jobs sharing gear with existing jobs -- and I highly suspect any future jobs will end up doing the same!

    Are you talking about savage loot and 24-man loot (both 2 drops per boss)?
    Yes, it's 42 items, but it's also 8(!) chests in savage/24-man. E.g. in A10s there are 14 different items and 2 drops. So giving RDM own gear would decrease this 2/14 to 2/16... that's not thaaat game breaking.
    In the 24-man it's 21 different items per boss, but every pattern 2 times.. so it's 4 chests/tries to get your wanted loot, 4/21. Would be 4/24 with added RDM gear.

    Soooo... if you add a third drop, it's pretty clear, that this would increase your chances. (4/21) is worse than (6/24) and (2/14) is worse than (3/16).

    And tokens alone made it easier to obtain your loot compated to coils and that would be still the case with doubled item ammount (50+ kills for first WHM weapon back then). ^^


    Edit: Didn't factore the with/without replacement effect on the propabilits (24-man has double drops, up to 4 times same item; savage has not), but well, idc. ^^

    This may be a stupid question but is it known whether drop chance is a flat % per item or balanced according to the job (i.e. does DRG gear drop 1/7 or 1/13 - soon to be 1/15 - of the time)? The reason being that I feel (anecdotally) a lot of DRG/MNK/ROG stuff drops in dungeons for me when nobody in my FC mains these jobs, whereas every single party has at least one healer and one tank so demand for these items is a lot higher and it takes a lot longer to complete sets, especially for raid dungeons. I feel like adding RDM to caster will aggravate this issue for casters. Glad that SAM is going to share though.

    If the devs keep consistent with their internal rule to keep the game simple (as happened with the removal of the elemental table), gear will be shared.

    With glamouring, telling your class by your gear has been gone and done (thus, we now see the class in clear in pvp) so I don't see any reason to have a new separate gear set. It will be more nice, instead, the new job comes with its new theme-related gear, but wearable and glamourable by any job with same main stat.

    Going maybe too much far, I will love see one day the separate sets of gear being only five: str/vit/int/dex and mnd based, with the job having access to one or two of them for use.

    And all of them for glamouring of course.

    I think he was talking about the role enforcement in raid finder when not queuing as a full party, not what's the ideal composition. The post he was referring to talked about loot, so, uh...yeah.
