Request for a feature to disable Soft Targetting

This may come across as trivial to some, especially mouse and keyboard players. I play the game on PC and use a controller. Often times when I'm on dps or tank my D pad finger get's a little ahead of my trigger finger. This causes me to target myself as hitting the D pad without a trigger causes target cycling through the party list. I generally don't notice immediately, and as a result end up standing in place doing nothing. Needless to say, rotations and openers end up being ruined, or in the case of PvP, I end up dead.

Is there a way that a setting can be implemented allowing us to toggle soft targeting like this? I can't speak for the entire player base, but I can say this would be a QoL improvement for many controller players.

This happens to me so many times. Especially in PvP, I end up foolishly targeting myself or the next person over as the Monk in front of me beats me to hell.

I looked for options to disable this, but I can't seem to find anything.

Happens to me all the time as Dragoon. Because of how I have my rotation set up (L2+up = chaos thrust, L2R2+up=power surge, R2+up=legsweep) I end up pressing up a lot and I have on multiple occasions targeted myself by mistake.

It was a NIN for me earlier today. I was 1v1 on PLD, a matchup I should have won handily. Instead, I was mashing buttons and doing nothing and by the time I realized what had happened I was too low on health to make a come back.

Disable tab targeting pets in PVP. I always seem to target turrets and summoners over and over

I think it's worse when you accidentally press the chat log then you keep switching between General/Event/Combat and watch as the combat log goes crazy, all within a fight. And the darn log won't turn off. Haaaate that.

If there wasn't soft targeting, wouldn't it just be hard targeting instead?

I do believe in the character settings there is a section where you can enable/disable targeting on any number of things including party/alliance members, pets, npc's and so on. I can't check as of the moment myself cause I'm at work lol

Happened to me even using a mouse...lol

While in the middle of the rotation combo, press right click and drag to rotate camera, but right click onto party member so it selected him instead, and I wonder why my rotation didn't continued.

I wish right click for mouse can be toggled off the selecting function..
