    Lessons from the past

Hello Fellow Adventurers of Light! (and lalafells)

Here's a story to better everyone's experience from what I've gleamed in the last 3 or so years since 2.0

When entering dungeons it's Courteous to say "Slow and easy?" or "Lets double pull and test our job limits?"

Once you zone in take a quick perspective of who you are adventuring with. If it's 3 sprouts then it's be best to keep everyones blood pressure low and single pull packs of monsters. If It's your 12th time running Sohm Al (Hard) and you've queued in with 3 other mentors then the party can decide based on how they feel like clearing it. Is everyone ok with?
    "Slow and easy?"
"Lets double pull and test our job limits?"

Final Story of dreams and Nightmares.
The dream to me would be that commendations would progress a statistic on your character chart of "courtesy 40". It's hard to explain but if you could inspect another player in a dungeon like you can now to see their job levels. But it could also show how many commendations the player has acquired. The silly "courtesy" stat would be cool just as an incentive to people and a reminder to be polite and patient. Now here's the story of Nightmares.

Joining Dun Scaith in progress on the third boss Scathach. The raid chat was complaining that dun saith had rolled their mentor roulette. If your a mentor then play pretend that it's day 1 3.5 and explain what Scathach does. Instead this nightmare ended before anything could be explained because of vote abandonment.

    Love you guys \o

You can based on dungeons, normally tank would determine that. I as a mentor tend check gear and stats, some find it offensive to even ask. For sprouts I tend to warn before hand and I also check their gear if under gear I take it easy unless they complain. Overall raids work differently. By now its an expectation it's no longer day one, and in times I just do a /a friendly reminder on key mechanics. ( usually helps ). IF people don't listen by second wipe on same boss, unless they say beforehand they are new, we vote abandon.

It takes a while to explain the main things the boss does and a lot of people don't want to wait patiently. Having actually done explaining with trying to keep things crisp and simple, a lot of it will still get forgotten or ignored.

After something like 3 attacks, Scathach does an AoE around her that melee should run out of her range for; there's no cast.

When she pushes you back, make sure to stay away from her should she teleport to you- her next AoE indicator is fast and will give a stacking debuff as well as hurt pretty hard.

Thirty Souls is a raid wide AoE and can hurt.

Sometimes there is a slowing debuff that also comes with a DoT. This can spell doom to those with it and Thirty Souls is cast (I've seen this claim a lot of people, especially if DPS is slow, she starts casting this combination a lot). Only solution I've found is to power heal through it.

Shadespin is always safe on rear and one of the positionals. Once you figure out which flank is safe, it doesn't change until you recommence the fight.

(See where the circle breaks on the striking dummy? A lot of people apparently don't know this, but that's where it indicates where rear ends and flank begins. You don't need to stand directly to the back, left or right to get those positions.)

Those are the main things I see killing people. To be fair though, I've not seen a vote abandon much in Dun Scaith unless all three alliances are fairly bad at handling mechanics. It's not like Ozma where one raid dead, or one tank, probably means you'll wipe unless the people with the mechanics actually know how to compensate.

As for dungeons, on the flip side, people can also ask for slow and steady preemptively. I've seen a few ask, both for slow and if it was okay to speedrun.

I pretty much disagree with this. When running a dungeon, I work under the assumption that the players I'm playing with are talented, know their job, and are ready for me to ramp up the difficulty. 999 times out of a 1000, I'm correct; the run proceeds beautifully - even when one or more of the players are sprouts. That 1 in a 1000? We wipe once, and I tone it down after that. It's no big deal.

I will not start with the assumption that my party members are bad players. I start with the assumption that they are good players.

Naturally, on occasion a healer will ask to take it easy before we begin the run, and I'm happy to accommodate them - however, I feel no obligation to make the offer. The most common reason to run a dungeon is for tomestones, and folks want tomestone runs to be fast and efficient. If a player would like to slow down a run for their own reasons (they don't feel confident, or they want to take in the scenery, or whatever), that's perfectly all right - but it is on them to make the suggestion, not me. I will run the dungeon in the manner most expect, unless asked otherwise, and that means fast, hard pulls.

In fact, I would go further and say that a tank that chooses NOT to pull hard and fast should explain their reasons why up front, and apologize. It's what I do early in a patch, when I'm unfamiliar with the dungeon. I let my party know that I'll be going slow, and apologize for the inconvenience.

To answer this, you don't move when the floor changes colors. Anyone who moves gets the debuff.
